Doesn't this statement prove there's a God?

It also contains some advice that is better if not followed and in many cases would be seen as less than kind. So we are left to our own in figuring out the beneficial advice from the damaging.
Are you sure about that? I think you’re mistaken.

Yes, I am fairly confident. So obviously I don’t think I am mistaken. But I’m open to hearing correction if you think otherwise.

You know this topic has been discussed at length. Are you saying the explanations you’ve seen before don’t satisfy you?

There’s a copious amount of descriptions that could be used to describe the multitude of explanations and evaluations that have been provided. I do find many of them to be compatible with what I’ve said. When talking about sections from the OT (it contains far more of the advice that can be ignored) a common response is that the rules were for a different people. This in no way that I can see conflicts with my statement that “It also contains some advice that is better if not followed…].”

Yes and trying to apply them to today’s world makes you look rather silly. Society and religion are constantly changing.

Society is constantly changing, this is a fact. Religion is constantly changing? Am I to understand your comment to mean that the Catholic Church, and her truth is constantly changing or did I not understand your point?

When did I say that?

Is religion constantly changing? We Know many non catholic denominations are constantly changing, splitting, ect.

But you are a Catholic poster here saying that religion is constantly changing. What do you intend to mean by that?

My point was that at the time…stoning someone for wrongdoing was acceptable. It isn’t in today’s world. Things change…that’s all I meant. I never said anything about the Catholic Church changing. I said religion and I only meant that as a general statement.

And the stoning of a person is found in the Hebrew Scriptures of your bible.
So your point is?

Huh? Are you just trying to cause trouble?
You mentioned stoning, I assume to teach us something about the Catholic faith.
If it is causing “trouble” to remind you that your Holy Bible condones it in the Hebrew Scriptures (known to you as the Old Testament) then, I have to ask why it causes you concern.

No, it’s causing trouble to intentionally ignore the previous conversation I was having with another poster and then ask why I mentioned stoning. Now if you’d simply read the other conversation I was having you’d see why I mentioned it.

You and I are done speaking.

Conversation with another poster?

This is, a thread on Catholic answers forum in the Philosophy forum.
This is NOT your personal discussion with another poster here.

I am NOT done speaking and will not be done unless a moderator here decides so, not by your decision. You are not Catholic Answers.

what do you want to know, though? You seem to just jump in and not add to the topic. If you want to know something. I’ll try to help you. I ask only that you not be biting, and I will try to extend the same courtesy to you.

Tell us about the stoning he mentions so lightheartedly. Tell us about how many of the passages of the Hebrew Scriptures are to be taken. I have a very hard time reconcilling them with the Jesus of the New Testament.

I try. I have done my “time” by spending it buying every single Catholic version of all books in the Holy Scriptures and gone above and beyond that by hearing them at Holy Mass, I have read of your Fathers, I have gone to many Priests who were reccomended to me in the Chicago Archdiocese.

I am a willing instrument, I am either too dumb to see things others see or God never loved me at all.

To stay on topic, maybe I am that disrespectful child who should be put to death.
A horrible thought.

Now I begin to understand you! Thank you for responding.
I’m no bible expert, and that’s not a cop-out, I’m just not. As for this stoning thing, let me go read it over again. I’ll get back to you.
Are you just feeling that the church makes basically no sense, or the bible? Do you think there is no God? Just tell me so I can know what to say. I’m not an expert in anything, nor do I pretend to be, hopefully, but I want to help you.

But there are other laws out there that have the same effects. Follow the teaching of humanists and you get the same result.

Also, following all the laws God gave us would certainly not lead to the best possible world. According to the OT you should kill a rebellious child, a woman who is raped in a city, an adulteress, homosexuals, and many others. We obviously don’t follow those laws because they’re clearly wrong. How do we know they’re wrong? Because we have a conscience. You can say that God gave us a conscience, but then you’d be saying at the same time that God gave us commands that go against our conscience. And how does that make any sense?
Yes, how does this make any sense? I’m here to learn, teach me! Why would God inspire writings that are not recommended at home??

Yes and trying to apply them to today’s world makes you look rather silly. Society and religion are constantly changing.
why would God command something that is fundamentally wrong, no matter what the age? you don’t kill people for rape, or rebellious ways–I’d be dead! Seriously, this is very confusing. Society changes, but right and wrong, MORALS, are not supposed to change, according to the Catholic church. Something which is wrong can never be right, no matter what the circumstances.
So teach me, please. Strawberry has a point, I feel.

You are the most humble and most kind of all I have met, although I will say I am still here because of the many others who guided and kept me here. I will never forget their efforts.

I feel that if any church makes sense, The Catholic Church is the only one to investigate.
I read about the Eastern Churches and the Schism. Pride got in the way there as far as I can estimate. However, I admit a deep love for the reverence of their Divine Liturgy. And how I feel connected there, more than anywhere emotionally.

Emotions can lead to things that are not necessarily in our best interests.
My heart was broken when I found out the Orthodox had more of a financial intrerest in the burning bush then preservering it.
