What’s up with using God’s name?
I got a pamphlet that looks similar to this…
I know people will reply ‘no big deal’ but our Jewish friends are very careful with the name of God.

When I read this, it didn’t make me think of God, more like Popeye the Sailor Man from his old theme song. I have normally read the translation of God’s words as “I AM WHO AM” (no second “I”).

It’s pretty clear here that this is just a play on the brand name of the dog food and not any attempt to reference God. Any ordinary person might say, “Hey, I am who I am” in just describing themself, again without any thought of referencing God.

Does that mean that every time I say “I am” in response to a question, I am using the Name of God?

I am not thinking so.

It’s more that the dog food IAMS, in capitals is odd, then they add I AM WHO I AM which is even more odd. For dog food. These marketing ideas are well discussed and thought out. It makes me think of scripture.

If you google I am who I am, this is what comes up…

What is the meaning of I Am Who I Am?

The meaning of the longer phrase 'ehyeh 'ăšer 'ehyeh is debated, and might be seen as a promise (“I will be with you”) or as statement of incomparability (“I am without equal”). … "I am who I am " – an evasion of Moses’s question; "I am who am " or “I am he who is” – a statement of the nature of Israel’s God ['Elohiym];

Another Google search… Note the capital letters…

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you’” (Exodus 3:14).

You do realize that the original Hebrew this was written in had no upper or lower case lettering? Later editors did that.

And I could very well be mistaken but I thought it was originally translated as “I am that I am”. Because it was confusing for English speakers to say it that way, they changed it?

I highly doubt any Jew would take offense to this. Firstly, that’s not how it’s generally translated from the English is Jewish texts. That alone is also not the name that you are referring to…

Good luck finding canned anything if you’re in a coronavirus shutdown area. The canned shelves at my local grocery were quite depleted.

Guys, it’s a plain as day.
Jesus gave us the 7 I ams
God fed his people in the desert with Manna from heaven.
Jesus is the food that comes down from heaven, the bread of life.

Dog food, with the name I AM WHO I AM right on the bag.
No one finds that even a bit suspicious? Dog food.
It’s like calling manna and the Eucharist dog food. Food given to dogs. That’s a classic insult coming right out of the bible.

I can take God’s name right out of scripture and you say no that’s not the same. It is the same.
It’s like Jesus feeding the 5 thousand and people remark that everyone had extra bread and extra stinky fish in their bag they carried around in a hot afternoon, in case they needed a snack later, so they shared. Perfectly natural event, nothing out of the ordinary here. That’s you guys.

I guess all will be revealed at the end of the world and we’ll see how blind we were. Me included. I’m stupid about a lot of things. This is pretty clear.

The bag says IAMS with an S. If you want to play “find a word” with that, you can.
But I doubt that is what they had in mind. The guy’s last name was Iams. He probably grew up watching Popeye and getting teased with the line as others have said.

Why make it into some nefarious plot when it isn’t?

No, what’s on the bag is the same thing that’s always been on the bag:
IAMS

How you get an insult out of that is beyond me.
