When I read this, it didn’t make me think of God, more like Popeye the Sailor Man from his old theme song.

I wouldn’t rule out Popeye’s catch phrase being a tame version of real sailor’s cursing and taking the Lord’s name in vain centuries ago. Christianity is pretty deeply imbedded in our culture in many surprising ways.
