Isaiah 58 describes the fast and its results. If you do it correctly you will walk in greater spiritual wisdom.
I’ve known many people who did it right and got set free
 
It’s always important to remember that God is not a genie granting wishes if you rub his lamp. We pray for an intention but that prayer may be answered in ways we don’t expect. There’s no guarantee that if you fast a certain way or pray a certain way you will get exactly what you asked for. Could anyone have prayed more sincerely than Jesus in Gethsemane when he asked that he might be spared? But he added the most important line: not my will, but your will be done.
