Is it morally acceptable to purchase clothing from a store, that is open on Sunday, that is made-to-order?

The principles of the Lord’s Day, where Catholics should rest and refrain for comprehensive work, is binding on Christians, not non-Christians. Made-to-order items, such as food, take time but isn’t any less problematic than a quick food store or buying from a Wal-Mart.

There’s also a matter of economy. Some people are required to work on Sundays, and in specific cases, their work necessitates the special services we need, such as police, fire and hospital care.

While we as Catholics shouldn’t see Sundays as a day to go on a long shopping spree for needed items in the house, the purchase of some items on the way home from Mass (and doing so on a Sunday) shouldn’t a real problem.

I’m talking about ordering garments (not on Sunday) from a store that works seven days a week, which will be working on making those garments, seven days a week.

Then I don’t know where you would shop. Everyone these days are open at some point on Sundays (except Chick-fil-et, maybe that is why they are so successful 🙂 )

No, it’s not okay. Walk to church, then walk back. Don’t engage in any activity aside from church on Sunday. Don’t eat. Don’t go to the bathroom. Don’t talk, and for the love of God, do not smile or be happy. When you come back from church, enter into a state of suspended animation until 12:00:01 AM Monday morning. Then, wake up from your state of suspened animation and go about your daily business.

Are you kidding me? Of course it’s okay.

Don’t try to find fault/sin in everything.

Maybe in this economy sadly people need the work. We don’t have any such stores in our area, the men’s ones (that tailor suits for example) are closed on Sunday.

Also, you really don’t know if they will be working on your particular clothing on Sunday, do you? Remember too, if its a relaxed (not sweatshop environment) it may be that some people find this work relaxing, and they may choose to work on Sunday if they’re non-Christian. If you live in an area where there’s a large Jewish population, they’d probably consider working on a Sunday acceptable, while Saturday would not. This particular store may employ them.

If you are speaking about some kind of sweatshop though, I sure would go somewhere else to order your clothes, particularly if there are other stores to choose from.

👍👍

For comic relief: anybody who wants to avoid supporting sweatshops and establishments working on Sundays should never ask for legal advice. 😃

yes, it is also morally acceptable to shop yourself on Sunday if you have to
it is morally acceptable to work yourself on Sunday if you have to

we have 10 commandments, 6 precepts of the church and a code of canon law, why do you want to make up more laws?
