Please pray for the repose of the soul of Dom Paschal Baumstein, OSB, monk of Belmont Abbey, who died Thursday evening. He was the monastery’s archivist, and his work in documenting the monastery’s history will be of great importance to the both the Abbey and the college for years to come. The Abbey community also loses a great holy man who lived out his vocation to the fullest every day of his life, even after he was afflicted with illness a couple of years ago.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Lord, please welcome Your faithful servant Dom Paschal Baumstein into Your Heavenly Kingdom. He gave his life in service to you and others through answering Your call to the religious life; may he be rewarded in Heaven. Amen.

Lord of love and mercy, look with kindness on the soul of your devoted servant. Grant that he may rest in eternal peace, let Your perpetual light shine upon him, in fulfillment of the promises of Christ. Bless his loved ones with comforting faith in your mercy. We ask this through Christ, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.

Here is some more information on Dom Paschal, taken from the Monastery’s website:
**Father Paschal Baumstein ** was the biographer of our first abbot, and formerly worked to preserve and organize the abbey’s historical record. Trained in Intellectual History, he has written extensively for scholarly journals, was book editor of the monastic periodical Cistercian Studies Quarterly, and has been a calligrapher for Catholic Worker. Father Paschal was born in Tennessee and lived in Connecticut before coming to Belmont. He has consulted in works of public broadcasting (both radio and television). The encyclopedia of monasticism that was published in 2000 empoyed him as an author and member of the board.
