So since the DOMA was shot down today and marriage is now a joke to most people in our society, how do we pull it together to remain positive. I truly thought the Lord would stop all this non-sense and never let this happen. But it seems our societies “free will” has overturned God’s will. I’m confused on how the Lord could stand by and watch this happen. Are our prayers not good enough anymore?

Laura, we were warned:
The Epistle of Saint Paul to the Romans; Ch. 1
"[16] For I am not ashamed of the gospel. For it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew first, and to the Greek. [17] For the justice of God is revealed therein, from faith unto faith, as it is written: The just man liveth by faith. [18] For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and injustice of those men that detain the truth of God in injustice: [19] Because that which is known of God is manifest in them. For God hath manifested it unto them. [20] For the invisible things of him, from the creation of the world, are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made; his eternal power also, and divinity: so that they are inexcusable.

[21] Because that, when they knew God, they have not glorified him as God, or given thanks; but became vain in their thoughts, and their foolish heart was darkened. [22] For professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. [23] And they changed the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of the image of a corruptible man, and of birds, and of fourfooted beasts, and of creeping things. [24] Wherefore God gave them up to the desires of their heart, unto uncleanness, to dishonour their own bodies among themselves. [25] Who changed the truth of God into a lie; and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

[26] For this cause God delivered them up to shameful affections. For their women have changed the natural use into that use which is against nature. [27] And, in like manner, the men also, leaving the natural use of the women, have burned in their lusts one towards another, men with men working that which is filthy, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was due to their error. [28] And as they liked not to have God in their knowledge, God delivered them up to a reprobate sense, to do those things which are not convenient; [29] Being filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness, full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, malignity, whisperers, [30] Detractors, hateful to God, contumelious, proud, haughty, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

[31] Foolish, dissolute, without affection, without fidelity, without mercy. [32] Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death; and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them."

Pray, Pray, Pray for the strength to persevere.

Pax

Cheer up! Soon you will be able to earn your martyr’s crown!

I am feeling distraught as well. Literally ALL of my friends think this was a “”"“good”""" thing that happened today. Many of them Catholics and we go to a Catholic school. I just don’t know what to do anymore. I want to speak out against it, but I don’t know how without just pushing people even further away.

At least we can be confident of this: what is on the wrong side of reason and human nature cannot be on the right side of history. Eventually humanity will see through this deception. It may take centuries or millenia. It may take until the Second Coming. All that is out of our hands. Our task is simply to fight the good fight, with or without hope of victory in our own lifetimes.

The messages from the unelected media are most powerful. Don’t be a minion of the unelected media.

I totally feel like I’m an outsider on all of this too. Just about everyone I know who is not Catholic feels that this is a great day for man-kind. Equity for all! And if I say something against it’s, I’m a bigot. I just don’t know what to do. I prayed and prayed that this wouldn’t happen, but it did. It makes me wonder what God’s plan is. I mean, I was just told by someone on FB that I’m a bigot and that God is a fairy tale. This is what our society is coming to. How can this end well???

I can see the anti-Catholics of the 31st century already, defaming the Church by saying that in the Middle Ages (or whatever they consider our time) the Catholic Church sat by as abortion and sodomy were made the law of the land in what secular history will regard as having still been Christian countries. They’ll point out Catholic politicians who voted for these things and dig up opinion polls and quotes from dissenting priests and nuns to make the Church look complicit. And the Catholic apologists of that time will take pains to show that many Catholics really did oppose these things, that formal Magisterial teaching remained firm on them, and so forth while (hopefully) also acknowledging that the Church is made up of sinners and could have done a better job.

Whatever the Supreme Court rules is not going to change people’s hearts. We must continue to pray for the conversion of sinners.

Look at history. At least the first 400 years of Christianity the whole church was persecuted, in the eastern church the last 600 years or so have seen it go from dominate to barely surviving, and in Africa?
It’s just that we here in the west have enjoyed over 1000 years without persecution from the world. He have fought against each other. That time of relative peace is about to be over. Obama is an anti-christ and has trippled the rate of moral desent in this country. We all knew this was coming, we just didn’t think it would happen this fast.

Hang on because next comes protection for SSM and people will not be aloud to speak out against it, and then will come mandatory compliance. In other words churches will be forced to perform SSM ceremonies. The true christians will not be able to comply and will be persecuted,

Also, if SSM is ok then any kind of Marriage is o.k. and the U.S. owes the Mormans and Warren Jeffs a big apology.

Hang in there Laura Turner, we’ll be O.K. 🙂

We went through all this a few years ago in Canada. I wrote letters to members of parliament against same-sex “marriage”, to no avail.

In short, the sky didn’t fall, the sun still rises in the east and sets in the west. I don’t think it was a great thing for the institution of marriage but lets face it, marriage has been under assault since no-fault divorce was legalized. I remember asking a (Catholic!.. at least in name only) woman friend why she divorced her husband. The answer “she didn’t love him anymore”. Why? “Because he’d dump his laundry on the floor” and a whole bunch of other marital misdemeanors. 🤷

We just need to keep calm, carry on, and continue to be good witness for our faith.
