Dominican Mass Pictures

I went poking around the Order of Preachers website, and found the photos from a Dominican Mass.

Note that Rev. Fr. Anthony Patalano, OP, was instrumental in my religious education, and Rev. Fr. John Fearon, OP, was my primary exposure to Latin Mass, using the Dominican Mass.

Kind of… in community, yes. For Roman Church Public Masses, it was not permitted at Holy Family Cathedral for public masses, and that may have been priory or even order wide. (Certain Dominicanisms were permitted… Dominican propers, the way the Cross was carried, and a few other odd bits…)

Fr. John, however, when he said a private mass, usually used the Dominican Latin Mass. (He did not at my wedding mass.)

Mostly, however, they did not use it where the parish would see it. I was told that they were NOT permitted to adapt it to English, but were permitted to adapt the Propers specific to Dominican use to the Pauline Order of Mass.

Thank you for the pictures and the video. Our family has always been close to the Dominicans–my husband and children were baptized in a Dominican church, we and his family were members of the parish, and his aunt was a Dominican nun. But I’ve never seen a Dominican Mass. That was very beautiful.
