Donating Rosaries to Non-Profit Org. Okay?

Good evening everyone - I’ve started to do my spring cleaning and have so far gathered so many clothes, blankets, dishes, etc. which I’m donating to a non-profit organization that helps abused and battered women. They are a very spiritual group although I don’t know for sure if they are Catholic. I just happen to run into this very nice lady at the grocery store, who was sitting outside selling paintings of Jesus and she had the Bible with her. I asked her if she would give me a pamphlet on the organization and she did. Would it be wrong for me to include with the items that I’m donating (inside a purse) a couple of rosaries with a rosary pamphlet?

I don’t think it would be wrong but I would’ve asked the person if she accepted the rosaries. I’ll be a little careful about giving out many rosaries to the same person whom I don’t know what faith he/she is.

On the positive sides, you are doing 2 things at once – Even if she is not Catholic, if God’s will, those rosaries might be the first thing to guide her Home. We also hope that she could give the rosaries to someone else too.

Since I am a volunteer rosary maker for Rosary Army, which gives away rosaries to anyone who asks, I think I know a little bit about this…
If a rosary has been blessed, it should be given only to a Catholic, or a non-Catholic Christian like me, who knows how to treat a blessed item.
**As long as the rosaries have not been blessed, they are not sacramentals, and may be given to anyone, of any faith. If you have any question as to whether the rosary/rosaries may have been blessed, it would be better to place it somewhere in a Catholic church, with the idea that anyone there can take it. (I would say, put a note with it, that it is a blessed item).

This is an important distinction, especially in regard to the kind of rosary that sometimes arrives in the mail…I have several blessed items, or at least, items I am told have been blessed, and I care for them carefully, with the respect they deserve, as such…
Also, as a thrift store shopper, I try to take special care of any rosaries (or other similar items) that come into my possession, assuming that they have been, at some point, blessed. (I know they lose their blessing when sold, but I still think extra care is a good practice)…

And there may very well be Catholic ladies among the women (& children) helped by this group, who may have fled with only the clothes on their back, having to leave rosaries behind. They wouls surely be most grateful for any rosary you might have to give them.

I think giving a rosary away is a great idea, yet only if it is direct and not sneaky. I’d rather give one to someone that wants one than someone that will throw it away.

Can’t really “trick” people into it. I say be direct and ask if they’re willing to take them.

I thought blessed rosaries were only a sacramental item that’s bound to the person, and loses it’s sacrament status once it is no longer that person’s? Is there some documentation on this? Like real documentation, not just other threads?
