Donations in memory of the deceased

I remember when my mom died there were a whole bunch of little cards at the funeral home with the person’s name and the charity for the family to have. My sister’s father in law just died and I would like to make a donation. I checked on the funeral home website but only saw about ordering flowers. I haven’t decided which charity yet. Anyone know how this works?

You could do it through some place that you connect with the deceased.

Eg If he loved kids, you could donate at Sick Kids
If he had cancer give to the Cancer Society.
Or Heart and Stroke foundation.
Or whatever else
Most of these places have it available on their websites.

Have used Sick Kids, Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke … in the past.

I had been thinking of Food for the Poor, but that is sort of my pet cause. I picked Heart and Stroke because he had a stroke. I only met him once and I think I am still going to cry at the funeral!

A donation could be made to a religious order or to a parish for that matter for them to say a mass for the deceased. It never hurts to have mass offered for someone even if they were not Catholic.

Great idea.
Last year a colleague’s Mom passed away and I did the mass card (pic of Jesus in the garden) and she really loved it. They were Anglican. For mass cards, I use Passionist Missionaries (on Kipling) they are great and even mail directly (local and international)
