Isn’t there a passage by Paul that says something to the effect of “what I have done I have done in the person of Christ” where the Greek reflects what Catholics understand the priest to do at mass?

Not exactly; it says in most translations “in the presence of Christ”. I think in Latin it’s different. Perhaps it can be translated either way.

**Edit: After just a bit of research, I foudn it’s 2 Cor. 2:10, and it’s about forgiveness. KJV translates it this way:

“To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;”

so maybe yes. It seems like many translate it “person” and many others “presence”. Go figure.

The Greek word is here:
