hi every one i’ve done something really bad, and am regretting it so very much. the story goes we had a tenant who lived in a spare room we had, we treated her very well, it was as though she was living in her own home. we made life easy for her by giving her love respect everything. she has been with us for a year now and wanted to move out, we told her you should have given us a month’s notice, and as you’ve given us short notice if you’d please pay for the 1 week that you’ve stayed and for another week just to cover our costs as she had not told us a month in advance, she replied very abruptly by saying she wouldnt pay at all, we then asked her to only pay what was her due which is a weeks rent, at that she said she would come back in the night and sort things out, my mother asked her for her address where she will be staying , she gave my mother a wrong address(i came to find out that the address was wrong when i went to knock at the door, to ask her why she had just gone off like that, without saying goodbye or paying the rent) i then thought that i would go to her freinds address and get her address, she was hiding there but i had seen her, she answered the door, and i politeley said to her why she had done what she did,at that another man came out and began shouting and saying do you know the law and what not, I did get angry at that and told him ofcourse i know the law and do you know you have let an illegal immigrant into your house and that shes got a fake visa etc etc, i didnt mean to say that but anger took all control of me. my brother got angry when he saw the male who was trying to overpower me, he came out and just asked them to pay up or we would call the police. she said she wouldnt and she said she would come home with us and discuss it properly, i put her into my car and brought her home to discuss the problem, but she would not want to solve it she came onto me, asthough she was going to literally beat me. i then just told her instead of screaming and exchanging abuse ill just call the police. my brother abused her in return she abused him. he did abuse her mother and father which i know is totally unecccesary, in return she said to him i hope that when you drive you get into an accident. i feel awful abouth the whole case. she then went away without paying or anything, we just asked her to leave. i believe i have done something really bad. how do i get over this. i never intended to hurt some one so much as i did, i tried calling her to apologise but couldnt reach her. it it really all my fault. i dont know what to do. is God going to forgive us for hurting someone’s feelings?? please help what muct i do in such a scenario??

First of all, if you are Catholic, go to confession. Mostly because you will be able to get some perspective on this whole issue from your confessor. He will offer you some solace and maybe some objectivity. Someone your family embraced violated your trust however, your response naturallly was very emotional as well. It was more than just a matter of collecting a debt from someone.
Obviously this is a very sore spot right now…and there seems to be some legal issues in regard to this as well as far as money due etc. If your renter owes you money, you can always file a small claims court case, if you can factually show a contract was made with the renter and you can show some cancelled checks of what is your normal fees etc. Whatever you do…wait for a few days, and during that entire time, pray on it that the Holy Spirit will guide you to do the right thing to make proper amends with dignity and grace for all involved.

“Who can detect his own failings?
Wash out my hidden faults
And from pride preserve your servant,
never let it dominate me
So shall I be above reproach, free from grave sin.” [Psalm 19:12-13]

Peter’s regret

Jesus, I know the regret of one who fails to serve the need in another person, perhaps even in one’s most-loved. I have experienced the remorse of those who wound another, however unintentionally.

Afterwards, there may seem no redress? The damage perhaps seems irreversible. The other’s heart or mind may seem unapproachable due to their nature or attitudes; or one simply lacks courage to risk the other’s anger or reproach?

When we bless others, we bless You, and when we wound them, we wound You… Thus, in Your weakest moment I left You desolate. In Your greatest need, I abandoned You—although in my confusion and loss I feel that You deserted me. Nothing can expunge your hurt then, in that time.

I ask forgiveness, and You forgive. Yet the moment cannot return and you are gone. Not gone, but changed…beyond my touch and understanding?

The scars remain, burned in Your feet and hands, and in my heart. Yet You loved and chose, and gave Your life for me—although my weakness, fear, and sin betrayed and denied You.

Now, in recompense made fit by Your pure sacrifice—again and again I shall serve and pray for each brother in his weakness and need, as You have done for me. Thus may I watch with my Lord, sharing a-hundredfold what once I denied You.
