The only thing going through my head is the principle that humans will continue a behavior until it no longer works or has the desired affect… that is human nature… if we had no consequences for our actions, we wouldn’t change the wrong ones would we?
As a former addict and recovering addict/alcoholic and as a mother of a 21 yo, an 18 yo and a 16 yo… I say go for consequences… the more they hurt, the less likely you are to see a repeat performance. Here is the key though… you have to make it reasonable… if it is unbearable, she could give up on any dreams of college or career… so make it so she can redeem herself… like withdrawing privileges for a set period of time… whether it is driving or going out… or make your support conditional… we will help with tuition IF you have a clean drug screening only… then stick to it!
