I’ve been trying to get much closer to God, even though I’ve been battling with lust and porn addiction I stop and then go back to my old ways, I am so tired of this of feeling hopeless feeling empty the more I try and get closer the more I feel like I. Lonely worthless like I don’t deserve anything or Gods love. What can I do to stop these feelings, to get closer to God and finally be happy😔 I’m a 24 year old female I thought I was happy that I was going the right way and them bam I go back to my ugly past.

For me increasing my prayer time helped. Primarily, praying more frequently. At the beginning of the day I ask the Holy Spirit to help me with _______. Throughout the day when I think of it or am tempted I say a short prayer…Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner. It isn’t a quick fix but I have noticed a greater awareness of the help I am receiving.

God knows we are all sinners. He can see into your heart and knows you are trying. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you. A visit to confession always gives us a new opportunity.

Saying a prayer for you.

God Bless you.

Jazz, it takes repeated acts/thoughts to create a habit and an addiction, and to creat pathways in the mind where the obsession is fed and maintained,
so it also takes lots of repeated effort to break some habits.

Keep trying, and quickly do something else instead. Turn off your computer or phone or whatever, and do something else, when possible, something kind for someone else.
I hope you can think of useful and enjoyable activities to take the place of the time you might otherwise spend with porn.

I hope you see the potential in hobbies or activities in which your mind can find enjoyment, so that you are able to starve the activity that hurts your spirit.

I wish you the best and ask the Lord to help you to persevere in retraining yourself to more wholesome enjoyments.

God bless you,
Pauline

It’s about the struggle. Don’t give up.
If you thought you were getting better, the sin would be pride.
Fortunately, for our pride, we are sinners.

And old Nick… he wants to bring you down, make you give up. So he reminds you of your past. Your “ugly past”. Whenever Satan reminds you of your past, just remind him of his future.

Bless you. I take you in prayer to the Blessed Sacrament today.

Jazz, it’s good to be happy those times that you succeed in avoiding temptation, and to feel the peace and joy in those times that you succeed.

God gave us our human emotions, which can encourage us to keep trying, and remind us to thank God for the grace and blessing He gives us in our striving to live as genuine followers of Jesus.

Are you part of a faith community, not meaning that you simply go to mass then promptly leave but are you actively part of a parish? Surround yourself with active members of your parish. In another thread you’ve stated you are almost a nurse. A nurse in our parish helps our priest minister to the sick and homebound. Find ways to keep busy, keep focus on our mission in Christ.

The way you describe the problem it seems you are not totally convinced to want to stop. You may be at 90% but that is the problem. Until you are 100% wanting to ditch this completely, you will remain a spot weak and non commital.

But to make up our mind 100% isn’t easy to do. The way it is done is to request it from Jesus. We are absolutely dependent on him. Just tell him you desperately need his help to break this. Then say the prayer “help me to want to quit.” Everytime you think about it just repeat that little prayer, “Jesus, help me to want to quit”. Just keep asking over and over.
Wear Jesus out with that prayer. You’ll get it.
