Browsing my iTunes library, I was suprised to see how Satan had gotten ahold of me ever so subtly. How to Save a Life by the Fray? Maybe I should worry about my spiritual life and what it will turn into if I keep this in my library! Flood by Jars of Clay? If I keep them around, the gates of hell will burst and flood my soul! Eight Days a Week by the Beatles?!! God only made seven days, what is this blasphemy!!!

OH THE ANGUISH! I had to run outside to catch my breath, but to my dismay, I was standing on a sidewalk! And not a church sidewalk! A SECULAR sidewalk! Probably built by an ATHEIST, and traversed by a sinful drug dealer at some point! I was supporting Satan by STANDING ON IT INSTEAD OF STANDING ON SOLID ROCK (Matthew 7:24!)! And don’t get me started on the air I was breathing. That secular air, probably breathed by a Satanist listening to Pink Floyd!!!
:rotfl:
This just made my day! I think this is, by far, my favorite “rock is evil” thread on CAF ever!

Hmmm…I’m playing my Beatles record backwards right now and all I can hear is “Paul is dead”…no devil worship…sorry…

Um, certainly the OP realizes, or should realize, that the jesus-is-savior website is very, very Anti-Catholic.

I don’t believe that one can condemn an entire genre of music based on a few or even many bad songs. Not all rock and country music is bad. Much of it is good and some of it even promotes faith in God. We must learn to be discerning about the kind of music that we listen to. 👍

:cool:Considering, that my favorite genre of rock music is Rock Music, i have to say this.

(WHAT, since when is rock music the work of the devil sheesh), oh my poor head this is even harder to understand than the effects of liquid crystals, have on certain environments, and what effects fraustration have on them and their different shapes. (and i was completely lost on that seminar). )

Now, all genre’s have their good and bad songs, thats a fact. But, i can’t believe that a priest would say that rock is the devils music. Now i have to say, this is proof that you can’t believe everything that you are told.

Ok,Im sorry to post that all rock music is evil.

Some rock music(i dont know) are not devilish but most of them are.

And im sorry if the website i posted was anti catholic(honestly,i didnt know)

Well that’s all,if you want to listen to rock music or not, that’s your decision. You have the freedom to choose.Just as Jesus gave us the freedom to choose to follow him or not.
God bless and have a happy day.:)(oh yeah, and i don’t condemn anyone for posting on this thread)

Bolding added by me. What is your justification for saying “most of them are”? Really, how do you define “devilish”?

And comparing the decision of listening to rock to accepting Jesus is part of the main problem of this whole misconception. You’re putting music on the same level as religion. Accepting or rejecting a genre of music is not the same as accepting or rejecting a religion, which is a distinction that is failed to be made by people who claim that “[insert musical genre] is the spawn of satan”.

Most? I’m sorry, that’s still overgeneralizing. That’s like saying most video games are violent. Try again please. The term “rock music” itself is fairly ambiguous. I myself consider anything that involves a heavy use of electric guitars and drums as rock music but even that could be wrong.

Wow, that makes me feel so better knowing you aren’t going to condemn anyone on this board! Although, you comparing the freedom to choose to listen rock music to following Jesus is unfair.

Let’s play a little game I like to call making out of context comparisons.

*If you want to eat chicken today instead of beef, you have the freedom to choose, Just as Jesus gave us the freedom to choose to follow him or not.
  • If you want to put those pens back in the drawer instead of leaving them on your desk, you have the freedom to choose, Just as Jesus gave us the freedom to choose to follow him or not.
  • If you want to fold the towels into squares instead of rectangles, you have the freedom to choose, Just as Jesus gave us the freedom to choose to follow him or not.
I could go on and on with this, but I won’t. Yes, some music is bad. I’m sure I could substitute Christ’s name with Satan’s in a classic hymn, and OMG, even though it’s a classical hymn, it would still be SATANIC!!! Even though it sounds pretty, it’d still be terrible!

I really hope, OP, that you realize just how ridiculous you sounded by calling rock music satanic. When in fact, ANY music could be considered Satanic if you make it so. Don’t label a genre as such on the basis that it happens to be insert genre here. Otherwise, let’s start having threads about which brands of cheese, pop rocks or different patterns of snow on TV are satanic.

I would take his advice more on the basis of him being Pope than a muscian (and yes, I do like Gregorain chant). There are plently of Catholics (including Latin Rite) on the site who are musicians and condone both traditional chant and popular music.
I read somewhere that The Pope’s favorite meal is Bavarian potato ravioli with pancake strips. As much as I revere the holy Father, I’m NOT going to take his advice on food, as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a big glass of ice cold milk sounds a lot better.

Just because that’s his preference doesnt make my preferences wrong.

I can’t believe I’m hearing this from a fellow Catholic! Surfin USA? A chill surf song. What are you guys making it out to be? Some type of Satan-worshipping ritual thing.

No offence, but some Catholics sound very Protostant.
I have to ask the OP, who are you to jugde these bands? are you God’s hand that you can pass judgement on them and say their going to hell? Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the Bible say NOT to judge?
Yeah, Bono is such a sinner, I mean helping poor people around the world, not to mentio his lyrics. What a horrid person

If u want to know more about devilish music just go to this site
www.jesus-is-savior.com/Evils%20in%20America/devils_music.htm
When exploring a topic you are not familiar with, a good starting point is to assume that anything printed on jesus-is-savior.com is incorrect.

Without meaning any disrepect to the OP, it seems from your postings that you are unfamiliar with rock music and are simply parroting the fear-mongering claims you’ve heard made by others. Posting a link to a virulently anti-Catholic site as your “proof” is evidence of that (my word, a headline on the main page says “The Pope is the Vicar of Hell”).

It is very important to note that EVERY musical genre has Christian artists in it, working to spread the word of God. That is true even down to what most people would consider the most “evil” genres (like black metal, as celticsfan1983 spoke of). From my own experiences in the heavy metal world, I can tell you that there are people who come to Jesus through these bands who would never have been reached any other way, especially by establishment churches. They are doing God’s work, IMO. 👍

I’m almost 60. I’ve been listening to rock, country, blues and (yes classical) music all my life. It never harmed me, and often helped me. Much as I love my Metallica, I wouldn’t play their music in church.

BTW, the Taliban condemn ALL music and forbid playing it. That goes so far as individuals, singing, whistling etc. Sounds like hell to me.

Well, of course it doesn’t make your preferences wrong. I just meant that trying the Pope’s suggestion could help your spiritual life. If it doesn’t, there are always other ways to worship.

Yes, but this is where your analogy falls flat.

Everybody knows folding towels into rectangles is objectively disordered.

Really!?
Nothing is wrong with Rock music!!! It is just like any other music!! Do you support everything that classical artists believe in?? On a separate topic… What about actors! Do you boycott all movies because the actors don’t believe just how you believe?

Personally, I think that some music is horrible… I don’t listen to most rap/pop because I don’t like how highly sexualized it is. However, just because some songs do not reflect how you believe, does not mean that ALL of the genre is bad. I listen to rock, and I always have. Nothing will ever change that… Rock On!!!
