+Praise Him With The Strings+(Psalm 150:4)

The OP had this signature. I find it interesting that a guitar is a stringed instrument. I guarantee that if they would have had Marshall stacks during David’s times, his Psalms would have rocked! They could make some killer sounds with a distorted harp!😃

Lol. I cannot actually believe I am hearing this? You are against a genre of music that can reach out to people during dark times in their life? Or bring together thousands of people in an arena? Or touch the hearts of rock lovers? Or even inspire people?

Yeah, great argument. Myself, I’m a huge fan of Marilyn Manson, Mindless Self Indulgence, Green Day…ETC.

Oooh! Sue me.
:]]

Yes, but this is where your analogy falls flat.

Everybody knows folding towels into rectangles is objectively disordered.
Rectangle is the only way to go. The squares are too hard to make uniform.

What about socks? Do you fold them, or tuck them together?

I listen to rap.

We all enjoy different music.

Nothing is wrong with Rock Music as long as the lyrics are not satanic or misleading.

Peace

Well, i have to say every genre has their goods and bads. Dont pick on Rock music.

I say “Rock On!!!”

You’re right. We need to stay away from songs with such satanic messages as, “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “Desperado,” and “Surfin’ USA.” Anyone who listens to this stuff will go straight to Hell. We should boycott radio and hold prayer vigils outside music stores."
So you are God? Wow, I guess I’ll hold my tongue, but . . . wow. How utterly absurd.

Sometimes I wonder why so many people think that we Catholics are nutcases. Then I read a post like this and remember.

I wonder what the OP would think of bands like, Demon Hunter, The Showdown, Pillar, Disciple, Anberlin, I mean These guys devout their lives to making sure Satan does not have all the good music.

POPE or not i firmly beleieve in what the Church teaches and it is, Music can not inherently be evil or not. Music is simply that Music. Music is all that music is…It is the words and the intent of the person playing the music. If a man plays heavy metal and sings about death, that is probably bad, but then you get bands like The Showdown who sing songs like “Achilies” and “Nemisis” (all you heavy metalers, should go look them up) You can not listen to those songs and read the words to them and hear the strength of God them. especially “Achlies”

My response to the OP…Get a life. Worry about your own soul. We shall worry about ours. I listen to Heavy Metal, I have done so for almost 10 years of my 23 years of life. If anything it has brought me closer to my God and Savior and if bringing me closer to him damns me to hell, well then i cant wait for the Hand basket…Besides i will see you there, Because Legalism is condemned in the bible, That is what your doing. So good luck with that.

Well, let me tell you, the song “Learn to Be Still” (Eagles) was a song a dear friend played for me when I was going through a rough time in my life. To this day, that song is extremely calming.

Hehe, I’m Catholic and my favorite bands/artists are the Beatles, the Eagles, U2, Nickelback, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Bruce Springsteen, Ani Difranco, Shakira, and some others. Most of them, I was raised on (I love the movie “Almost Famous”, actually, because it’s a family favorite), as for the latter two, I love how Shakira blends both her Colombian culture and Lebanese heritage into this amazing fusion of sound and Ani, I find, adds a lot of depth, honesty, and reality to her music.

I love music, always have, always will, ever since I was three and, according to my parents, could identify the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the radio and would request Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’”. I’ve been playing one instrument or another since I was seven and have taken voice lessons.

Do I approve every lyric out there? No. But, as with books, I take it for what it is and can appreciate the skill and passion of an artist, whatever their beliefs. As for the Pope, a lot has to do with personal preference. In fact, classical composers were no more immune to immorality and temptation in their day than anyone else. Mozart was known to engage in debauchery and ended up leaving his family penniless. Yet no one denies the greatness of his works.

Another song lyric that I’ve always found comforting is, “The only pain is to feel nothing at all.” From U2’s “A Man and a Woman”, a song that reminds me of a modern day “Song of Solomon.”

I’ve noticed the OP has been silent, no replies or responses to most of this.

Perhaps that person realized the failure of thinking used to create this thread.

i’ve read Veronica Lueken’s revelations (Our Lady of the Roses). Rock music was created in the temple of Satan. i struggled with that rock music analysis for a while before finally making the jump. These days i listen to Classical Music, Gregorian Chant, etc. Anything after the 1920’s i am skeptical of. And that’s one of the greatest moves i ever made. i have grown spiritually since then. i found the Latin Mass shortly after giving up the modern music among other positive things. i can’t speak for you people but as for my own life it was a good choice for me.

Hey, after i found Gustav Mahler there was no reason to go back!

You can make the lyrics arguments all you want but at the end of the day my conclusion is this: There are saint’s relics which can have a positive impact on you while you are near them or have them in your possession whether you realize they are relics or not. Conversely, can there not be elements which have a negative effect on you whether you realize they should or not?

Put it this way, the Vatican is built in Rome, a city that was very much pagan and anti christian. Christians were able to turn it around to something that is now beautiful.
So what if rock music started out evil (which I myself think is a bunch of bull)? Artists have now come along an made some truely christian themed rock music.
