I don’t know if you’re attempting to be ‘tongue-in-cheek’ or not. If you are being serious, then your post reflects your opinion only and not any church teaching. God made each of us, and made us with our own tastes and preferences in music.
 
Ignoring all the bantering I just have to say this thread reminded me of a song I learned as a child;

i love rock music… (not all of it but a lot of it - the older stuff)…

but if i listened to it every day and that was ALL i listened to… i would not be in a good spirit… would not be feeding myself healthy food, as it were…

and if this is true of me, it is true of others… Ok, so that isn’t necessarily always true when speaking of… whatever…

for example, i can like coffee but others dislike it… However, when it comes to morality, we are all basically the same… If one person commits adultery and it causes massive problems in his life…and the lives of others… we know that that will also happne to others, even though the circumstances in ea person’s life is are very different…

so… it is different when we are dealing with issues of morality… as opposed to preferences in what to drink or whatever…

listening to anything that glorifies… just about anything BUT God… is NOT going to keep you on the straight and narrow… and even if you do maage to stay on the straight and narrow to the best of your ability… in other words, even if you avoid mortal sin your soul will not be in the right condition to practice good works… and etc… I know this… from experience…

you can’t love both God and the world,…

most rock songs about the things of this world.

i mean… my ears are used to U2… and SuperTramp and… Genesis… etc…

Once again you are using yourself as a barometer and giving your opinion that others would respond in a similar fashion. However, just because you respond a certain way to certain influences, does not mean that others will respond the same way. People are different. So I will politely disagree with you on this topic.

Honestly though, people need to grow up if they’re talking about calling Rock and Roll “devilish.” Fine, don’t agree with the lyrics, fine. Just have fun with the music though 🙂

People are different but not as different as the difference between… say a rock and a giraffe… So I will politely disagree with you on this topic

that is such a subjective word as to mean absolutely nothing…

A couple pages back, somebody tried to make the argument about Iron Maiden being satanic.

I really have a bone to pick with this – the only thing this is based on is their song “the Number of the Beast.” If you listen to the lyrics, it’s about a dream the narrator (Steve Harris) has where he sees the Devil. The song is a warning that the narrator is giving, having witnessed the power of the Devil within his dreams.

How is this Satanic? Is the Book of Revelation Satanic, because the Devil is a character within it? 🤷

Iron Maiden’s one step away from being a Christian band, if anything. Though they focus moreso on British military history though.
 
i listen to Rock music. but i’m selective. i don’t listen to Heavy Metal, which usually glamorizes satanic worship. but i would listen to a lot of soft rock, alternative rock, pop rock, etc.

That’s what happens when one draws conclusions based on song titles rather than a closer examination of the lyrics. It’s similar to what can happen when one draws conclusions based on news headlines rather than reading the whole article (and is also similar to what can happen when one judges a book by its cover ;)).

Hello all. I’m 22 and I’ve been playing guitar in a classic rock cover band for about 6 years. I grew up listening to classic rock (the Stones, Beatles, Hendrix, Floyd, Zeppelin, the Doors) for most of my life, and I truly love listening to it and playing it.

Recently, I’ve started thinking more about my Catholic faith, and I’ve realized that although I have no problem with the music, some of the lyrics of these classic rock tunes are less than wholesome (i.e. lyrics about fornication). A few months ago, I joined a new band, and we play some classic rock tunes as well as some originals. Years ago, I wouldn’t have thought twice about it, but now, I get nervous thinking about playing a song like “Honky Tonk Women” with my band because of the lyrics. I certainly don’t approve of sex outside of marriage, but is it wrong for me to play a song that has lyrics that deal with the subject? Also, a song that our vocalist wrote mentions “making love” outside of marriage. I don’t know if I’m being scrupulous or if I should take these things more seriously. It’s not like myself or the band is trying to promote a sinful lifestyle, but is it sinful for us (or more specifically me) to perform these songs for an audience? Any advice would be appreciated.
