Schools barred from telling parents of abortion
California AG says leaving campus for certain services confidential

California schools cannot inform parents if their children leave campus to receive certain confidential medical services that include abortion, AIDS treatment and psychological analysis, according to an opinion issued by the office of state Attorney General Bill Lockyer.

The opinion was prompted by resistance from teachers unions and groups such as Planned Parenthood to a Sacramento-based lobby group’s efforts to help schools enact a “parent-friendly” policy requiring parental notification and consent in the wake of “medical emancipation” statutes that allow students to confidentially seek medical help off campus.

Previously it was understood that schools were allowed to enact confidentiality policies, but now the state’s top lawyer is saying they are required.

Amazing that schools want to hold parents responsible for truancy when they can’t even tell the parents if the kids are at school at all.

Also, I want to know when something goes wrong with some of this free, clandestine medical service, do they dump it back on the parents and say, “here you are, we messed her up so you need to fix her.”

An AG opinion has no legal binding authority whatsoever. Agencies of the executive branch of the government will follow the AG opinion because he is their legal advisor/counsel. They will cease to follow his opinion when and if a court case is fought and decided over the issue. Bottom line, take it to court.

Amen, take them to court. In Memphis a few years ago a teenager age 13 went in, and without parental notification, had an aboortion. She had major complications had to go to the hospital, and that is how the parents found out. They brought a lawsuit against the clinic, one for the parental notification issue, and number two, they wanted those hospital bills paid by the abortion mill. The parents lost, they weren’t told, their child was butchered as well as their grandchild and the mill and the court tells them-that is your problem.Lovely,huh.God Bless
