…reading this. I just have to get this off my chest and hopefully out of my mind. I have finally done it…I have been going to Mass twice a week for the past couple of months. I was trying to find a relationship with God and trying to build my faith and work toward becoming a full practicing Catholic. However, yesterday I pulled the plug on all this. I have been steadily declining emotionally for quite some time. Also, my financial, professional and home life have been declining rapidly as well. I have proved to be a failure as a wife, mother, daughter, employee - pretty much a failure all the way around! Now, with missing Mass yesterday, and having no intention of going any time in the near future, I am a failure as a Catholic/Christian as well. I don’t know why I can’t seem to manage a relationship with God (the Father and/or Son). I just don’t find any peace or reassurance from the Mass or in anything I do. I pray and pray with no answer so I have given that up (FAILURE) as well. I no longer feel any physical, emotional or spiritual connection anymore. Yes, I guess to some degree I’m depressed, but there’s not much I can do about that either. If you’ve read this I apologize for that…really I’m not looking for any response or anything, just need to let it go…

aw Kristina, you know, God loves you the same whether you’re “successful” as a Christian (and as a wife, mother, employee, etc) or not. And who of us is successful? God is the only Person we can count on to truly love us unconditionally, even when the world is falling apart. It’s not about how well we can do it… it’s about just letting His love transform us, but if it’s difficult, God understands and is still there for us. I think, to me, it sounds like you’ve been *trying *so hard, but just try taking the time to simply BE with God.

When we don’t feel close to God, when we don’t feel that relationship with Him, He is still there. These times are given to us so that we can learn how to believe and trust without any signs or emotions. It’s natural and it’s something that many people go through. Don’t let that discourage you from trying. God is pleased even with our little efforts, as long as we have the will. Our relationship with God is not based on feelings or emotions or even our success as Christians, but rather on love and trust. Everything else comes from that. It’s also something that comes with time so we must be patient with ourselves.

God bless :hug1:

NEVER CONFUSE NETWORTH WITH SELFWORTH!!
a terribles thing they teach us to do in school

huge hugs

Hang in there. I’m sure you are NOT what you say you are at all.

I know how you feel, I often feel it myself. As hard as it is right now, trust in the Lord. Ask Him to give you a little relief, that is what I always do.

all too often I am too…just never brave enough to say so. Hang in there!!

I’ve gone through the same thing. So has Mother Teresa… on a much larger scale then me 😃 . God’s just testing you… or you may have been specially chosen like Mother T was… Jesus called on her to share in some of the suffering that he had to bear on his way to Calvary. We gotta remember that the suffering that Jesus went through was not just physical, but emotional and spiritual “He became sin, who knew no sin, that we might become, his righteousness.” In his own eyes, and in the eyes of God the father, on his trek to Calvary, he became sin himself. With sin come anger, pain… all that stuff. I think Jesus is just asking you to share a little bit of his pain with him… will you?

God Bless and keeping you in my prayers,

It’s when I feel like a failure as a mother, as a wife, as a daughter, at everything including a catholic, that I feel like God is with me most. Because he is most likely to accept my failings and give me the strength to move forward. When we fail everyone, they tend to turn away… except for God. He’s the only one still around when things seem so ugly. I used to feel his presence, and I don’t anymore - just like you. But someone is helping you get out of bed every day, because I’m betting you couldn’t do it on your own. For every move you make that you’re surprised you actually managed, that’s God active and present in your life.

I don’t see it most days either. Don’t lose faith - God is with you and I think really deep down whether you want to see it or not, you know. Maybe it will just take some time to see it when you can look back.

If you have a good parish priest, maybe you can talk to him about it. I find my priest can find who God is present in my life so easily, and I just don’t see it until he casts light upon it.

The Lord keeps faith forever.

When someone is having a difficult time, it is never wrong to get in off your chest. Look at how many people already support you. I know sometimes it can feel like we are the only one’s going through all these things. I’ve been there most definitely myself.
From your writing, it does sounds as if you are depressed. Don’t worry, it is a medical condition that can be treated and God will be there for you as well. Try setting up an appointment with your physician and let them lead the way. Also, I have found meeting with a priest very helpful, and they can often put your mind at ease. You are not a bad person, your even say your repentance within your email. God/ Jesus/ Holy Spirit will lead you on your way. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi kristina40 :),

You’re worth so much kristina. Jesus went through so much suffering for you. He thinks it was all worth it because He wants to abide with you now and always. He cares for you so much. I’ve been diagnosed with clinical depression and I’m hoping to be weaned off of my medication in this life :D. God is doing a great work in my life. I’ll pray that He’ll do the same for you, to be lifted of your depression.

God bless you!

I would strongly encourage you to talk to you doctor about your feelings and try some anti-depressants, if you haven’t already. Drugs aren’t a cure-all, but you’ll be amazed at the difference they’ll make! 🙂

Your post really confuses me. Why are you posting if you don’t want us to “waste” time reading it? I think you do want help and probably will come back to this thread to read the replies.

Look first thing you need to know is that God ALWAYS loves you. Think I’m lying? Go sit your bottom down and look at Crucifix. You tell me that isn’t love. Why else would the most powerful and all knowing Being, send Himself down to itty bitty tiny Earth in the flesh to be tortured, beaten, and murdered? You need to except that there is reward for you if you stay true to Him. I hope you can yourself as great potential instead of a failure.

And sometimes they can backfire and make depression worse. Use extreme caution in approaching ‘the drug cure.’

If you are measuring your faith and your self-esteem by your successes, then Jesus was the worst failure of them all: he died a common criminal, thus shaming his family, and cried out to God “why have you abandoned me?” I don’t think that latter was for show for our benefit. I think I’d cry out worse things if I were the one crucified.

None the less, feelings and thoughts can be distorted; and especially if one is depressed. Per: LisaB, Cjellis27, and Sailor Kenshin, seek medical help (with caution), therapy from someone recommended by your priest or someone you trust, and yes, it is always good to put this stuff out to a priest if for no other reason to receive a blessing.
Prayers…

I have a wonderful spiritual director who told me this yesterday:

“What if you went to God and asked him to help you figure out why you’re having such a hard time believing and praying?”

I never thought about it like that before. I always thought of it as my responsibility to keep up the relationship. 🤷 But this opened my eyes to a new way to look at the relationship I have with God. THERE IS NO STANDARD! That was such a relief. I don’t have to be any different than I am, I don’t have to conform to any kind of mold or formula to have a relationship with God. All I have to do is go to Him and say, “I’m having such a hard time right now. Will you help me?”

God loves you for who and what you are. PERIOD. God made you, God loves you. If you had children and they were having a hard time, would you label them as FAILURES? Or would you say that they’re having a hard time and walk with them on their journey to find the answers. God will walk with you through anything. :hug3:

I am truly sorry that you are going through this right now. I am also having issues in most of the areas of my life, but the assurance that the one constant remains constant is what holds me together. I hope you are able to find peace soon.

God Bless,

Hope
