I ran into a group of about 50 teens tonight at a local icecream restaurant and found out they were from the church we left in 2004 after my wife wrote a civil letter to the preacher over several bad statements he made about the folks living in the apartments that they wanted us to knock on the doors to teach them about Jesus…save them. Demographically 1 in 4 American’s are Catholic. In my area and in those apartments I’d say at least 1/3 to 1/2 are Catholic and relatively poor. They are marginalized poor Hispanic people despirately trying to make ends meet. I know far to many churches that do this from my previous group and ironically they act much like JWs and LDS with door knocking.

I told one boy about the early church fathers, 5 names, gave him John 6 and 2 Thes. 2:15 to read. I also told him how to find a site online. I clearly said that I once beleived as he does and that I discovered that the early church was not [my old faith name] but rather Catholic…it’s historical fact and provable.

I got so angry knowing what they were up to when I got home. I told my teenager to come with me and pulled Karl Keating’s book out Fundamentalism and Catholicism: the attack on Romanism. I also pulled out Bruce Sullivan’s book Christ in His Fullness: A Protestant Minister Discovers the Fullness of Faith in the Catholic Church. I also pulled out the Pillar of Truth Pillar of Fire and went back in and asked for who was in charge to and adult. he acted confused but nice at first. Then after a minute of confusion I said to him…let me give this to you then… I handed then to him one at a time and said that they all need to read these books. It will change their lives.

He responded REALLY! in a rude way and i turned back and say really in a polite tone…it really wil change your life if you read them. I told them that I left that particular church a few years back and now after doing more study we are Catholic now.

I felt bad about it. But I know far too many women that grew up in that faith and were deeply hurt by its ways… Many of those kids will grow up telling all of us on here that we’re all going to hell except them. To give you an example of the mentality, once online one of the preachers said something to the effect that IF Mary is there I’ll tell you. It was that obnoxious. This is a very disordered group of folks that honestly have many beleifs that fall just short of being Catholic. They believe in Baptism as necessary and that one can fall away…rejecting OSAS. Marriage for life…period. Bishops and Deacons as part of the hierarchy.

I emailed my pastor and am waiting for the slap on the hand. I feel that while wearing my Franciscan University t-shirt and San Damiano Cross [looks like a crucifix] and Steubi-U hat I set an example to the teens that we Catholics can defend the faith if they only talk to a Catholic that actually knows the faith. I gave them something to think about… a rush that may end up asking questions later. I have told Father that I want to start a door knocking ministry to help those poor unsuspecting Catholics that are being walked all over.
The teen boy was shaking his head when I was explaining to him somethings he was saying wrong. It clearly bothered him and he acted typical of that faith. My FIL was a Bishop. Two of my BIL are preachers and one is a Bishop on top of that. WE have entire families of deacons around several states.

What are your thoughts on this action… How would you react in a situation like this… I mean what I know they’re up to and if you want turn it around the other way. I keep my distance from kids. But these kids are being trained to do some very disordered things. I couldn’t help myself because of what we went through with that particular church and how my wife’s life has been severly alters as a result of abuse in that faith. She’s Catholic in secret now.

What denomination are they? I am baptist, we cannot do that.

Baptist typically don’t go around preaching others are going to hell like this group. Baptists are despised by this group too. I’ve given hints. Here’s another one. They have the Lord’s Supper EVERY Sunday as mandatory. Missing worship on Sunday is a sin. Not going to church will cause you to burn in hell [almost Catholic sounding so far isn’t it?]. I’ll give you another hint if you can’t get it this time.

Sounds like Mormonism…

Anyway, I sympathize with your concern for these kids. Some groups really put some strange ideas in their kids heads. Several years ago I was awakened at about 7 in the morning on a Saturday by a knock at the door. I got up and answered it, to find a smartly dressed woman and her 10ish year old daughter. They were JW, and wanted me to take a copy of the Watchtower. Just to be nice, and because I was groggy, I took it. The girl looked bored and nervous at the same time, and as they walked away I heard the mother coaching her for the next apartment. I thought to myself, poor kid. Let her have her Saturday morning, for crying out loud! She should be sleeping in for another hour or two, then watching cartoons in her pajamas, eating a bowl of sugary cereal, not knocking on doors with her mother. I have since learned that the JW’s got in big trouble years ago, and were ordered by the court to stop taking their kids out of school and making them stay out until the wee hours of the morning passing out literature on the street.

NO! LDS is Morman as you say. I learned that LDS do not like the term Morman. So I’m trying ot use LDS for short. But you are not right so far. COC…hint… Alexander Campbell. No instramental music is allowed. Max Lucado…just broke off of it.

My wife was forced to door knock every Saturday. Her family also operated the Bus ministry to pick up children in the neighborhood in order to plant the seeds of truth in them. To this day she hates door knocking, which explains why she wrote the letter to the preacher that was saying all those knuckleheaded things about apartment residents.

I wish god would give me a JW knockin on my door, I’d have so much fun.

Sorry, sheesh! If you don’t want people to guess, just say so.

My SFO friend’s wife was JW before converting to Catholicism. She still gets the heeby jeebies over Mary for some strange reason. No rosary praying at all, which is fine. But then why did she convert? Doesn’t make sense to us. She doesn’t like the spirituality of our pastor. He’s Franciscan. They are a very spiritual order. Her husband is an SFO-Secular Franciscan Order. Strange. We love them though.

They pass our house up now…we really bother them.

lol, I am wanting to pray the rosary, and I am not even Catholic 😛

The rosary is praying the scriptures. meditation prayer.

I’ve discovered that lots of non-Catholics do pray the Rosary. I’ve also read that even the Eastern Catholics are beginning to pray if more as well as some Orhtodox. Of course they pray the Jesus Prayer, which frankly I love. I lost my chikoti last New Years at church. Sad over it and I want a new one.

I said COC…that stands for Church of Christ. It’s a split from the Disciples of Christ and the Christian Church.
Huh… last thing I heard CoC, Disciples and Christian Church were the same thing and not like you describe. When a sign says (whatevercity) Christian Church, a Church of Christ community, we are the Disciples church, is that something else yet again or what?

The splinter took place in either the late 19th century or the early 20th century. The first time Church of Christ was recorded by IRS was in 1906. That was an amazing discovering for my wife. I knew better because I knew history.
