Douay Rheims Challoner?

Hello. I was wondering if the Douay Rheims Challoner bible was good - I ask this because I see the DR bible quoted quite often on this site. Anyway, I recently purchased a copy for $72 Canadian and I’m really enjoying it.

So, how accurate is it? Would anyone recommend it over any other Catholic bible?

Which is better the NAB or |DRC?

I have the DR Challoner with Haydock commentary and I love it for its Catholic traditional teachings. The DRC is better by far in my opinion. The RSV CE and JB would be next. I think the CC still has the DR as its official bible.
For what my opinion is worth.

I paid $ 113.00 to rebound a Family Bible >DRC< a few years ago.
I recommend this Bible and think of it as a Treasure!

I did the same thing rebound the family version. You are right it is a treasure. I also found one at a church sale for $2.00 and spent $100.00 for a leather binding.

I got one for free but the binding and indroduction pages are full of graffetti. Any suggestions for repair?

You can always have it rebound and maybe the binder will have suggestions for the graffiti.

Mine is the 1899 edition…

…which was published in 2008.

I’m so lucky to find a new one.

The Douay Rheims with Bishop Richard Challoner’s footnotes is in my opinion the most reliable Bible on the market. The Douay Rheims being as reliable that it is, and Challoner’s traditional Catholic footnotes is a lost art anymore. The Navarre Study Bible and Ignatius Study Bible are more like commentaries than Study Bibles, but the Challoner is concise but does provide footnotes for those passages that need to be explained. Being concise makes it a Study Bible that is practical to carry around.
