Douay Rheims-Which is best?

Hi everyone. I’m looking for a Douay Rheims to add to my library. I’ll eventually buy a Haydock, but which version printed today would you recommend for everyday use? I saw the Baronius Press version, which looks pretty nice, as well as the St. Benedict Press and the Loreto. I think I’d like one that is the Challoner version, but what are your thoughts? Thanks!

I have the one by Saint Benedict Press. It’s a Challoner version and it’s really nice. I love reading it. There are a few mistakes here and there, but overall it’s written very well and it’s definitely readable. I’ve never read any others so I can’t help you on that, but I do recommend the one by Saint Benedict Press.

All of the Douay Rheims bibles commonly available are Challoner versions.

The Baronius Press editions are very nice.
Personally I prefer them to the St. Benedict Press edition, but the grounds are purely aesthetic. The text is basically identical.

I have the one by Saint Benedict Press. It’s a Challoner version and it’s really nice. I love reading it. There are a few mistakes here and there, but overall it’s written very well and it’s definitely readable. I’ve never read any others so I can’t help you on that, but I do recommend the one by Saint Benedict Press.

I second this, and I’d also add that the commentary is a good length for everyday reading. It’s not too long, but it’s always there to clear up confusions or add some illumination to the text. I’ve got the paperback version, which is pretty durable, like your average paperback book, but better than the mass produced ones.

There’s a section from Ephesians from the original 1609 version on the wikipedia article for the DRB, before the Challoner revisions, and it’s much harder to read, much like the original 1611 version of the KJV.
