Is it good to have one for study?
Please tell us what kind of studying? The reason I ask is that I use a Catholic Study Bible based on the NAB. While no longer the “best”, it is quite adequate for the Bible Study classes I take, for looking up references, and for many, many important pieces of background information on the Old and New Testament Scriptures. But the NAB is not everyone’s cup of tea.more specifically, should I get a copy to help with study?
Good for you! I prefer the Douay-Rheims version, because the language reads more exact to me. Tan Books used to offer a free e-book called Which Bible Should You Read, and it’s an excellent overview concerning the questions you asked.well… it doesn’t really matter anymore, as I went ahead and got one anyway.
The Haydock Commentary with the D-R Bible is very good.well… it doesn’t really matter anymore, as I went ahead and got one anyway.
So I’ve heard… but hard to find… and expensive. The Haydock Commentary with the D-R Bible is very good.
Have you tried Ignatius Press or Tan Books? So I’ve heard… but hard to find… and expensive.
Not really…just use the DRB site that CAF uses. VeritasBible.com which has Haydock CommentarySo I’ve heard… but hard to find… and expensive.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not going to use it exclusively, but rather in conjunction with the RSV. I have an Ignatius New Testament study bible, which I love. However, it’s still too early to tell if the D-R will be the only one I use for lectio divina. The Douay Rheims is beautiful and venerable,
but it is no more necessary for Catholics to use it, or ONLY it,
any more than it is necessary for
Protestants to use exclusively the archaic language KING JAMES VERSION.
I have a Douay Rheims Haydock, and it is very helpful for study.
And I agree with the poster who wrote that some of the study notes
to the NAB border on being outright Heretical. Oh yes. Agree 100%

I know one thing, it will certainly help you to appreciate the readings at mass. Often, the readings in the missalette are written slightly different enough to make you think about the meaning.Don’t get me wrong. Philippians 4: 6 -7
6 Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
D-R translation…
Philippians 4: 6 -7
This made me think about the word solicitous. It actually means more than being anxious.6 Be nothing solicitous: but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
