Double Switch

Here’s a question based on indecision. If I left the Roman Rite and became a, say, Greek Orthodox(which I don’t plan to do), and then later revert, do I become a Byzantine Catholic or do I revert back to my Roman Rite?

We are baptized into one “Rite”. This is the one that one would be classified as unless one decided to “incardinate” and switch rites. This is a canonical process. However, this would not preclude one from attending any of the eastern churches in communion with the Holy See.

Joining an Orthodox church may switch your canonical enrollment in the Catholic Church upon your return, I do not know if the Canons make a distinction on this or not.

Technically you would revert to the Church sui iuris of your baptism. So, you would return to the Latin Rite. If you wanted to be a Byzantine Catholic you would need to do a change of ritual Churches – but there is no need to do that unless you wanted to be ordained in that Church. You are free to attend any Catholic Church and to receive the mysteries/sacraments there.
