As some people here may have heard, a sequel to the 1993 comedy “Mrs Doubtfire” has just been announced. It will star Robin Williams, once again and be directed by old hand Chris Columbus. The script will be written by David Berenbaum, who wrote “Elf” (staring Will Farrell.)

After 20 years, is there any reason to produce a sequel? Granted, the original grossed a huge amount of money, but that aside, didn’t the original film pretty much wrap itself up? Reportedly, Williams has repeatedly refused scripts over the years, so there has been some pressure for him to do a sequel. But from an audience’s point of view… why?

Is anyone here interested in seeing this film? Will it bomb, simply from lack of interest?

It could be that a new generation might find it amusing. The plot is fairly implausible though. I don’t really care one way or the other. A little bit of Robin Williams goes a LONG way. But if it came on TV, I guess I’d tune in. I don’t think I’d pay 13 bucks to see it though.

My gut reaction when I heard the news was “Why?” I guess we’ll have to wait and see what they come up with for the plot. At least it’s not a remake.
 
Mrs. Doubtfire was so depressing and boring to watch that I could not imagine being forced to watch the sequel.
 
I liked Mrs Doubtfire. Really enjoyed it and thought it was hilarious. But has you said, I think it was all wrapped up in the first one. I can’t see a second one being any good. Although I do think Robin Williams is brilliant!
 
Because the well for new film ideas ran dry around 2008.

That is also why, in my town, they show so much old stuff in the theaters. There are not enough new flicks.

However, I’d see MDF2 just for kicks.

Maryland Death Fest 2 is the only thing I came up with in Google.
