There are very few “dogmas” of the Catholic church and I have never had a problem with any of them.

Any stuff I’ve had a disagreement with is more along the lines of a moral teaching or social teaching, and I generally could find whole groups of bishops on either side of the issue.

*As a note: This thread is not for people to attack each other and neither am I trying to spark fights or arguments. This is a thread to understand what concerns people of the Catholic Faith and to try and guide them through dogmas that might be tough to grasp so that their faith may be continually strengthened in God. So to continue, for all who write in this thread, I pray to God that he keep us all humble in His omnipotent ways and that we are understanding to His truth which is love for You and for all.
Thank you for this note at the bottom! I wish more people around here would have your ethos. Thanks to abucs for posting the link since I was scratching my own head on that.
And now, I have some reading to do. Unfortunately, at the conclusion of said reading, the thread will probably be closed! xD

I know that many Catholics and Non-Catholics sometimes find themselves doubting dogmas of the Catholic Church
From the doubters I’ve talked to over the years, either they have not been properly educated in Church teachings, or they have an ax to grind and deliberately disregard or misconstrue her teachings (this group is generally “former Catholics”).

i have a hard time understanding the role of the death penalty in the Church view.
To briefly paraphrase the Catechism, the death penalty may be applied in cases where the government is unable to adequately imprison someone who would kill/injure others if he were to escape. Essentially the death penalty may be used to prevent that person from killing others.

A lot of this is about what you said is “understanding” the teachings. when there are doubts, i’ll either ask someone like a spiritual director, pray about it, or look online for what the church means.
From a reputable source, like the CCC or the USCCB.

So standing by and watching as a ruthless dictator kills and terrorizes his people when we have the means to stop him is ok?

It’s like blowing up abortion buildings to save babies. It doesn’t work that way.
Are you telling me that you would stand by and do nothing, if a murderer went to kill your next door neighbor’s five-year-old?

Have you ever read the book from C. S. Lewis called: “Mere Christianity”?
In the last part he has a very elegant way of explaining about the Trinity.

I would try to defend that family however i could
Extend that to nation states when they oppress people. We are our brothers’ keepers.

(And by the way, with the abortion clinic, blowing it up would not plausibly keep babies alive. So there’s no analogy there).
