Dr. Harold Camping?

I’ve heard of this preacher via American Family Radio, and I’ll simply and bluntly say that his manner, predictions, and how at odds with reality he seems fairly scare me.
I was wondering if there are any here who know of him, follow his tenets, or can shed some light on his denomination etc.

I heard him years ago, he sounded very spooky then, I guess he still sounds the same…
 
I used to listen to him a lot. I’d call him Non-denominational. He preaches the gospel as infallibly interpreted by Harold Camping. He claims to use the bible to interpret the bible but that can’t really be done IMO. He definitely believes in double predestination, the God has pre-destined some people to heaven and others to hell (that God actually positively wills that some people go to hell). Catholics believe that God permits us to make choices that could cause us to go to hell but He desires that all go to heaven.

Camping also believes no church is the true one. He says we are at the end of the church age. There is a remnant of true Christians scattered around throughout the various churches but no church teaches all the truth or is guided by the Holy Spirit. Could that be because no church teaches just exactly what Camping believes??

Camping has predicted the second coming a couple times. When it didn’t happen as predicted, he said he had not calculated correctly but it’s coming real soon.

Family Radio is widely listened to. Some of the programming is very good. I wish, and sometimes pray, that Camping would become Catholic. But I don’t think he has the humility to open his mind to the Catholic faith. But stranger things have happened…

He claims Judgment Day is May 21, 2011

He claims only 3% of people will be saved / approx 200 Million.

He claims the Church Age ended in 1988 … and thus no current Church is valid.

He claims he needs your contributions … takes Visa and M.C.

I hate to attack a fellow Prophet but this man is odd in his teachings. I do agree denominations are generally not of Jesus but base that on biblical grounds not some feelings unless God tells me otherwise.

Plus its clear if one makes a prophecy it better come true or its clear your not a prophet.

As for asking for money this site asks for donations so what if he does, he has a right to ask.
 
I heard Harold on the radio this after noon, which is strange because my radio has been broken for a few months. The radio in my car has not been working but about two weeks ago I took a trip to a monastery in Virginia. The radio came to life for my trip, but only AM 750 worked. The drive was about four and a half hours and 220 miles from east to west. The AM station was strong during the whole trip. Almost all of the programs were evangelist preachers, Harold was not among them. The radio died about one half hour after my arrival at the monastery. Five days later I drove home and the radio was still not working.

It hasn’t worked until today, which is my birthday, and all that I was able to hear, was Harold Camping answering some questions from callers.

His voice sounded a little feable. He must be quite old now. When his program ended, the radio stopped working again…

The truth is stranger than fiction, sometimes…

He predicted the likely end of the world once already. He is an engineer by training and does some complicated calculations to back his stuff up. Not generally considered credible.

When he started out he was more orthodox and had a number of ministries on his radio stations. They do play some nice older hymns.

What I will say is that though they do encourage contributions it is even lower key than EWTN. There is some integrity as I understand it. Camping does not take a salary AND they really do give away what they offer. They have a policy of NOT asking for contributions if you request books and so on and they really do not request money or bother you. They have a completely free Associate of Religious Studies (unaccredited) that they also do not ask for money for (all material free). In other words this is not like some of those other tv ministries in that these people are sincere and believe God would not want them requesting money for ministry items. The most they do is spot reminders by Craig H. on the radio that they are listener supported.

However…though sincere…they are theologically wrong. I imagine that once Camping dies their theology may change back to more orthodoxy.
 
Wikipedia says that he was raised in the Dutch Reformed tradition of Christianity.

This is useless, however, as his theology seems clearly at odds with Dutch Reformed theology.
 
If he awakes on May 22, 2011 in his Oakland, Calif. bed … will he then accept and determine to join the Catholic Church ?

Anyone who claims the Church has lost its supreme value and leader … is surely confused on Revelations, by the dark force.

Dear Trad Julia,

I have listened to him. I do believe he is sincere, but he stands uniformly against any and all churches. I usually pick up on his anti-Catholic rhetoric, which is substantial, but he is primarily anti-church in the physical sense.

My biggest problem with him is he believes his interpretation of the Bible is above any and all living and non-living interpretations of the Bible. I find that in itself shameful, but still I believe him to be sincere.

May God guide us all to the truth.

Teaches Christ didn’t die on Cross at Calvary [for first time] … says Christ died once before, before days of Moses.

Teaches Christ has removed his Holy Spirit from all churches … happened in 1988. And, all churches are under control of satan. Teaches his radio listeners to leave their churches.

Yeah, he wrote a book titled “1994?” that was available in book stores. I actually read it out of curiosity but was very confused by the way he did his calculations from the numbers found in the bible (a “poor mans” bible code). Anyway, he came up with September 1994 as the end of time but did throw in the disclaimer that if he was wrong the next date that would also fit his calculations would be around 2010 or 2011, I don’t remember. One of his statements is that the bible says we can’t know the day or the hour but it doesn’t say we can’t know the year or the month, so that is the kind of logic that was in the book.

Sad thing is I was listening to his show a couple months ago and a woman called in all distraught saying how she may as well not plan on going to graduate school now since there would be no point. Wonder how may of his current listeners know about his last book as he did not mention it while I was listening, I think you can only get his new book by direct order.
 
I’m pretty sure that Harry doesn’t have a doctorate in anything.

yes, and i find him very entertaining, right up their with the other false prophet brother stair.let not your heart be troubled. hes predicted the end of time here a time or two and been wrong each time. you can google him, and find some great video footage. Peace:)
