Has anyone heard of Dr. Rodney Howard-Browne? I just saw a commercial advertising his visit to our fair city (Louisville) to hold a “revival”. He looked like a faith “healer” a la Benny Hinn… He’s appearing at one of the churches here in town that has a TV show on the religious channel. There’s a whole bunch of forehead-smackin’ and fallin’ on the floor. Just wondering if anyone had heard of this guy.
Thanks.

He’s from South Africa, was in the forefront of the Toronto Movement “Holy Laughter” movement back in the '90s. I’d be willing to bet that his doctorate is not earned, but is an honorary from one of the pentecostal colleges.

Thanks, Dave! I have heard of the “Holy Laughter” movement…had no idea this was the guy! Certainly interesting…and I bet you’re absolutely spot-on about his doctorate.

He has an earned Doctor of Theology degree from SBTSU in San Jacinto, CA

As to what that degree is worth, I have no idea.

Thanks for looking into that. I have never heard of that school, but there’s a lot in this world that I’ve never heard of.

I do, however, know of a number of health-and-wealth personalities who call themselves “Dr.,” but whose doctorates are purely honarary.

well I lived in San Jacinto and never knew this place existed and from the address given it appears to be two store-fronts on a secondary street. San Jacinto is not much more than a town of migrant workers and old folks–there are about 50 huge mobile home parks and as many square-dance competitions. I had to laugh under the “history” section it says it is in the “hub” of Los Angeles, Palm Springs and San Diego…uh yeah right…they do have a great mom-and-pop Mexican restaurant called The Little Women Cafe. And since they built the Ramona Expressway thru the center of it you can get over the mountain to Palm Springs faster. But if you blink you will miss San Jacinto.
I did live right down the road from the Scientologists movie studios tho (next to the Junior College).

Yes. He is well known. Went to Madison Square Garden where he held a crusade for 6 weeks back in 1999. He is basically a humble man who is married to Dr. Adonica Howard Browne. His testimony is very powerful as is his ministry. He had humble beginnings in his ministry. I think their tradition is to go out where they are invited and preach. Eventually he and his wife came to America. God kept blessing him in his ministry. I’ve been to a couple of his services and he has been to Msgr. Vincent Walsh’s church in Winnfield, Pa., near Philadelphia. He prayed over quite a few priests there. Saw this on a video that Msgr. Walsh made of the event. It was quite nice actually.

He is pastor of a church called The River at Tampa Bay.

Best thing to do is to stay away from anything this man has to say. He is a false teacher and is unbiblical. Another name it, claim it pastor.

I saw Fr Walsh at a Rodney Howard Browne meeting in wilmington Deleware at Gary Whetstones Church. Fr Walsh invited Howard Brown to Philly.

Brown is a cool dude. His ministry has changed a bit he is now going all out to win souls.

This is an outright lie!
No lie too it brother. Check out this so called holy laughter religion. This nut is warned about because of his false teachings. Check out Hank Hanegraff or the Watchmen websites. I have seen him on tv myself and it made me sick too my stomach to watch this unbiblical teachings. Sorry you like the man but do some research on him.

Msgr. Vincent Walsh is a Canon Law Lawyer and he checked out Rodney Howard Browne. He invited him to his church. With permission I presume. This was many years ago. I would never go to a hostile protestant evangelical website and look for Mr. Hank H.
He doesn’t like Catholics. Holy laughter is not a “religion.” A lot of people have a problem with this. But I think it’s important to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and not get all caught up in any minutia. The Holy Ghost blows where he wills. So he blew on Rodney. It was obvious to what I saw and experienced.

Peace

So if the Lord has guided a Pastor to teach why would the Holy Spirit guided someone with the so called Holy Laughter during the teaching of His Word. Dosen’t make sense. Paul said in I Cor 14:33 “for God is not the author of confusion but of peace” This vincent walsh is just as guilty as browne for letting him in his church to teach this foolish holy laughter. By the way Hank doesn’t not hate catholics. I trust him a lot more than your msgr or browne.

This is the Rodney Howar Browne that you and hisalone love to hear. Read this article and shame on you.

Actually, you don’t know what I love to hear or not hear.

The article by Stephen Sizer is “goofy and uninformed.”

And double negatives in the English language are a sure sign of illiteracy and carelessness. Fear consumes some people.

To each his own.

Where is that “new Springtime” in the Church so confidently proclaimed by John Paul II?
I can only hope it comes to pass. And soon. Maranatha, Maranatha. Come Lord Jesus.

what you experienced was not the Holy Spirit it was probably gas. Paul even said in II Tim 4:3 “for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers. and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables.”
Again shame on you for allowing yourself to watching this false doctrine. The article is not goofy and uniformed but you are. Show me in the Word of God where the apostles were in holy laughter or barking like dogs. Shame on you.

Fear consumes some people. They seek out conspiracy theories.
They need to direct their shame at themselves.

I suggest you watch your level of civility.

Just telling it like it is. Now where is this kind of behavior in the word of God
