Dream that scared the daylights out of me

Hey everyone!

First, let me say that I have been really experiencing a deeper connection to Jesus and Our Lady lately…more than ever before. I pray the rosary daily, go to Mass as often as I can (but at least every Sunday!), and have been spending time in Adoration for the first time.

Well, something strange happened the other night. I had a dream and encountering demons in the guise of children. :eek: Let me add that I haven’t watched any scary movies in ages. Anyway, I woke up more frightened than I had ever felt in my entire life. I’ve had nightmares before, but this goes way above and beyond anything I’ve ever experienced. I’ve even taken to sleeping with my rosary. Could this be Satan trying to frighten me because I am drawing closer to Our Lord? Any thoughts/advice would be much appreciated. It could be the result of many things. However it is always nice to pray with a rosary and bless yourself with Holy water before bed.
 
If this happened to me, I would personally believe that this most probably is from demons.
But Christ has conquered satan, and is stronger than satan, and if you go forward in faith and righteousness, you should do all-right.
If it happened to me, I wouldn’t try to figure out why. I have enough trouble as it is trying to understand what people do what they do.
 
Thanks for the reply! Yes, I had a feeling that this was not just a nightmare. I rarely have bad dreams and if I do, I forget about them in a day or so. This was wayyyyy different. I could really just feel the evil and it scared me almost to death.

I have had 3 such dreams and I agree, they are MUCH different than a normal dream or nightmare, its tough to describe how they are different to people, its just something they have to experience to know what you are talking about.

One of mine was a good dream from God, but the other 2 were what I consider to be temptation dreams, and I could recognize them for what they were and knew what was going on thankfully I resisted, and the more I thought about, the more I felt good about it, as it shows, even in an unconscious state, I am able to resist temptation and recognize it for what it is too.

Oddly though, in one of mine, I think Satan was mistaken, he tried to tempt me with something that is not even up my alley, even if I was an atheist, I would not be interested in such a thing, I remember vividly in this dream, when I saw what he was trying to tempt me with, I actually laughed and said, “You really think that is tempting to me” LOL
 
You can pray the St. Michael the Archangel prayer and have a crucifix with a St. Benedict medal (blessed), pray the St. Benedict prayer.
 
You’re already praying the rosary, which is an excellent prayer, very powerful.
 
Dreaming is the editing floor of our heads; and it is set up so that we don’t have to look at the darkness while sleeping.

But they can be frightening if our subconscious, where most of the material comes from, contains a lot of fear.

So pray to be able to face down and overcome the source of that fear.

Satan does like to use spiritual attacks on people, especially when they are asleep because they are vulnerable.

Bless your room with Holy Water before you sleep each evening.and pray in your mind; “I command all evil spirits to leave and not return in the Name of Jesus.”

When you have a dream like that, say the Name Jesus. And say commands in the Name of Jesus.
Such as: “In the Name of Jesus I am not afraid.
In.the Name of Jesus I am waking up now.
In the Name of Jesus all evil spirits are powerless against me.
In the Name of Jesus I command all evil spirits to leave me now and not return.”

After that, just repeat: “Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus…” (until you wake up).

The Bible says, “Even the bad spirits submit to us when we use your Name Lord.”

Do this in 100% faith that the evil spirits run at the NAME of Jesus, and obey every command in Jesus Name.

Be positive and faith filled, imagine yourself waking up and believe you are waking up unharmed because of the Name of Jesus, (do not imagine or fear anything or picture anything negative happening, that’s faith)

I have read of priests in the deliverance ministry recommending this,

Three people I know of used to have terrible nightmares that stopped when they started using the Name Jesus as above.

Also: make the sign of the Cross in the dream, at the evil spirits, or blessing yourself with the sign of the Cross,

That will also make you wake up immediately.

Do not fear. Fear is a foothold satan uses.

Be 100% full of faith without doubting, in the power of Jesus Name. When you use it Jesus saves you immediately. Because, the Name Jesus means “God saves”
 
Three more powerful prayers:

“I bind all evil in the Precious Blood Of Jesus, and say that all evil is powerless against me in the Precious Blood of Jesus and is leaving me now without any harm or revenge in the Name of Jesus.”

“I claim the Protection of the Precious Blood of Jesus on myself.”

“In the Name of Jesus I command all evil spirits and their evil companions to leave me immediately and directly without any harm, manifestation, violence or revenge, towards myself, my family, relatives, friends, acquaintances, or our places, possessions and sources of supply, I command all evil mentioned to go directly to the presence of Jesus Christ in the nearest Blessed Sacrament of the Holy Altar, where Our good Lord Jesus Christ will dispose of them forever, according to His good and Holy wishes.”

(banishes evil)

Or

Hail Mary
(she crushes the head of the serpent)

(or just the Name of Mary)
Are also really useful.
Eg: repeating “Jesus, Mary, Jesus, Mary…”

Also: praising God spontaneously is powerful.
 
When you say the Name Jesus, evil spirits have to leave immediately.
They cannot stand or bear the use of Jesus Name.

St Padre Pio, St John Bosco, St Gérard of majella all used this.

St Theresa of Avila was being spiritually attacked and found that Holy Water made the evil spirits flee and not return. That it was more powerful than her making the sign of the Cross, because Holy Water has exorcism prayers on it and has a priests blessing.

It sounds like the evil one wants to stop you from drawing closer to the Lord. It is best to go to a holy priest where you can get spiritual direction and encouragement in continuing with your prayer life.
 
Thanks for responding everyone! I appreciate the advice and encouragement.

I wish I could have control in my dreams, and actively participate, but I’ve never been able to do that. I will keep trying though. Thankfully, I am going to confession on Saturday so I can tell my priest about it then.

Lucid dreaming (where you know you are dreaming and so have a measure of control) is exceedingly rare. So you shouldn’t be too disappointed in that regard.

I wonder if this is related, but I have taken St. Padre Pio as one of my patron saints. I’ve been reading about him and how he had to do battle with Satan. I am going to start asking for his protection at night.
