I’ve recently started taking my faith more seriously - praying more and more regular mass attendance after being disconnected with my faith in the past year or so but last night I keep having these vivid dreams about waking up and feeling there is something evil is in my room which I can’t see, I pray and pray and eventually I wake up. Then I fall back asleep and it starts again! I only ended up getting 2 hours sleep.

Is this something spiritual or maybe just a dream? It was really disturbing and distressing for me, I’ve been praying all day because I don’t want this to happen again!

Before people start telling you to “go see a priest, your probably possessed”. You should probably say whether or not your taking any medication or have been under any stress lately, maybe even how old you are, do you have a history with occult practices… that kind of stuff, before any one makes any rash judgements.

You obviously are doing something the enemy doesn’t like and he is trying to discourage you. Keep it up 🙂

I would sprinkle your room with holy water!
Try to get a St. Benedict Medal and ask your Guardian Angel to protect you before you fall asleep! :gopray:

Erm… I don’t see how it’s “obvious” at all. There are many possible causes including what was eaten or drunk before bedtime. Prudence would indicate looking at other causations first rather than jumping to conclusions. It could be his/her own mind dealing with some things in life that are now being abandoned in favor of following church teaching which is obviously a good thing. 🙂 Of course that doesn’t make the evil one happy but one cannot assume he is responsible for the dreams.

I had a similar experience , it was around the same time I had started praying the Rosary and just wanting to get closer to God in general . I wasn’t scared though, and normally that sort of thing really scares me! I would just wake up and pray “Hail Mary” and would just fall asleep, dreams went away. I do believe evil will try and distract, continue your closeness with God !

If I recall correctly, Saint Theresa of Liseaux had dreams with demons, and I am sure other saints had similar dreams. Like a previous poster said, you are probably doing something right! 👍

No medication, nothing different in my life other than trying to be closer to God, I’m a 24 year old woman, no occult things.
After praying yesterday, I’ve just had a great nights sleep. No more dreams but I’ll keep praying!

I’m thinking it happened to me for becoming closer to God. It didn’t happen last night, but I’m worried about it happening again so I’ll pray before bed every night now!

Say the Hail Mary ask her to protect you and give you peace while sleeping as a mom i would do anything for my sons peace and i know our blessed Mary feels and wants the same

When I first started believing in God, I had a few dreams where I felt like their was an evil presence that would pin me down on my bed so I used to pray and I would wake up. It happened a few times when I was in RCIA and I remember last year it happened the night after I went to confession!

I believe maybe that the devil gets angry at us for being close to God and God allows it to strengthen us and let us know that evil does in fact exist. It definately strengthened my faith!

It is due to the judgment of God regarding this apparent oppression. I struggled with the demonic the first year after my second conversion - and for 5 or 6 years it would again happen but less frequently. When this happens, it sometimes the case that God wants to give himself again in a new way to your heart. See it as an honor, for it would be to his Glory if you imitate Job in your regard for God.

If I were to go through that again, I would have focused on temperance - for the Catechism says:

“To live well is nothing other than to love God with all one’s heart, with all one’s soul, and with all one’s efforts; from this, it comes about that love is kept whole and uncorrupted (through temperance). No misfortune can disturb it (and this is fortitude)…” (CCC 1809)

If I were to keep undisturbed during that time by eating and drinking only at meal times - with a modest fast and abstinence on Fridays - with an assiduous glance at the peace in my soul - I imagine I would have been close to the transforming union with God. That gift will be by your gift if you make the most of your cross. And if there is no peace yet, it will come with advisors and steadfast temperance as described.

You have done what was right - praying. Maintain a state of grace and strengthen your soul with the Sacraments. Read the Bible. Put some sacramental items in your room and house as signs of your faith. Pray and invoke the Holy Spirit to come and dwell in your home. And pray for the most precious blood that was shed on the cross to cover and protect you.

Eventually there would be no place for evil there.

If it continues on, you can get someone, a priest better still, to come and pray and bless your room.

God bless.

“…Dreams of demons holding me down while i slept and trying to strangle me. Horrid stuff.”…“Also, i’ve never suffered from those terrifying dreams while i slept with me scapulars on. I have a green one and a blue/black St Michael one. They 're a bit grotty after never taking them off but i reckon its worth it.”

I think getting a house blessed because of a dream is strange. I’ve never had any odd experiences while being awake only in the dream. It’s not like it’s a haunting. It’s me being disturbed not my house

Of course. You are the best judge for yourself.

The suggestion to bless your surrounding, in this case your house or room, is to ensure that you are confident of being in a holy surrounding. Just to rule that out and next would be yourself, that you are not in anyway being oppressed by the evil one.

If you do not want to rule out any spiritual cause, though I would think it does no harm, then probably what you are doing now is enough, that is to pray. Or if needs be, may be get some medical advice, perhaps to relax yourself.

I often do that kind of thing - blessed the house with holy water, when I thought I need some tangible action on my part to invoke the Lord. But you do not have to do this if you feel it is unnecessary.

God bless.

But if you are in your house being disturbed, then that unholy being is in your house too.
Holy Water seems to cause evil beings pain. Because in exorcisms, when it is used, there is usually heard the sound of moaning and groaning coming from them. So Holy Water is one of the ways to make them go away.

It is good every once in a while, 3-4 months, go thru your whole house and sprinkle each room with it.

Get a plastic bottle, maybe a clean soft-drink bottle, and fill it with Holy Water at your church. Then use that to sprinkle.

Also when disturbed or tempted, make the sign of the cross devoutly and reverently over yourself thinking of the words and asking to be shielded. Works wonders.
Psalm 118
With all my heart I implore you to your face: take pity on me, as you have promised.
