More interesting questions would be:
What are dreams, and what is dreaming?
Who is the dreamer, and who is the ‘waker’?
What is the connection between them?
Why is there (most often at least) a period of unconsciousness between the states?
Some dreams appear like incoherent hallucinations and some seem very real and even spiritually very significant.
(Although, perhaps real in a metaphorical or allegorical sense).
How does a person assess a dream? Especially since there is a continuum of gradation from one extreme to the other.
Not to mention a spiritually significant dream, if highly metaphorical, allegorical or symbolic, can leave one with the impression it was incoherent nonsense.
And then again, some dreams that follow the physical laws of the waking state may be meaningless rehashing of mundane memories - or not.
A very complex and intriguing subject.
