I had a dream last night, I felt a weight on my right shoulder, a presence and I heard “the commandments of God are second to none”. I’m not sure what this is supposed to mean, why I would have dreamed it or if it was intended just for me or to be shared.

Regarding intended audience
The weight and presence was intended only for you, for had it been intended for others, God would have acted accordingly.

Regarding meaning
His Greatest Commandments for each one of us can be defined as: Always want to learn, perfect, and spread the means to be patient and kind and motivated for God with all the body, spirit, thoughts, and will equally towards others and the self, in order to achieve unbreakable peace, limitless happiness, and unstoppable energy, as a society as well as individual.

Recognize that if one acts outside of His Greatest Commandments, there will be a loss of peace, happiness, and energy, therefore forfeiting the greatest state of being as an individual and society, and therefore are second to none.

Regarding why
Possible meaning of your dream: You are favored by Jesus Christ, therefore, go and master His Commandments fully through the Sacraments of His Holy Church, to share the unbreakable peace and limitless joy of living in Union with Jesus Christ’s Love!

Thoughts?

The vast majority of time there are no meanings to dreams. Your brain is “reformatting” and organizing your memories. I wouldn’t let it bother you. Put not your trust in dreams or signs, but in God’s Holy Church.

If I had that dream, the first thing I would do upon awakening is an examination of conscience. I would look to see if I had allowed anything to become a ‘commandment’ for me that was not one of God’s commandments. Was there anything in my life I was doing that was clearly opposed to God’s law of loving God first and foremost, and loving my neighbor as myself? Was I following the beatitudes? Am I keeping the 10 commandments fully in my heart, and allowing them to guide me?

It means don’t listen to evangelical fairy tales because they don’t believe in the 10 commandments. They have their own which they make up as they go.

It’s thought that dreams are the unconscious mind’s attempts to classify, catalogue, and file away all the experiences of today and the past,

but the unconscious mind is a criminally incompetent file clerk. :jrbirdman::hey_bud::whackadoo: :slapfight: :takethat::coolinoff:

Dreams are a chaotic mess and mean nothing.

Nor are we responsible for the content of dreams.

Never worry about dreams. It’s a waste of time.

Just for a different spin. despite of what others say, very, very, very occasionally some dream has a real relevance. So perhaps in the future, if not in the present, you may be tested on the Commandments in some way or other.

Oh brother!

Once in a while a dream will have some correspondence to reality, but this is coincidence and unpredictable. Trying to find out what a particular dream means is a hopeless task.

We are tested on the Commandments every day.

Dreams often act as a safety valve which helps us deal with our problems and find solutions. The unconscious can have a powerful effect on our thought and behaviour - as with hypnosis…

it means your subconscious is reminding you of what you already know, that obedience to God’s commandments comes before all other duties. Is there something going in in your life that means you needed such a reminder from your inner self?

The dream means exactly what the words tell you. There is no reason to reject them because they are true. There is also no reason why you shouldn’t share them because we all need to be reminded sometimes of the truth…

I am guilty of often thinking in this manner, but if you read through the Bible, you find that God often instructs those who are asleep. I remain skeptical about certain personal encounters (my own and others), but I try to accept that it is a valid form of communication between Him and us.

How dare you say the dream means the person needs to be reminded about the commandments!

Dreams are a chaotic mess and mean nothing. Giving somebody you don’t even know advice based on a dream is wrong!

[BIBLEDRB]Genesis 20:3[/BIBLEDRB]
[BIBLEDRB]Genesis 28:11-13[/BIBLEDRB]
[BIBLEDRB]Job 33:14-16[/BIBLEDRB]
[BIBLEDRB]1 Kings 3:5-15[/BIBLEDRB]
[BIBLEDRB]Matthew 1:20[/BIBLEDRB]

And so on. God does communicate with us though we sleep! It is not for us lay people to decide whether something is an approved vision, it is up to the Church. Even then, it would be a private revelation and, as the CCC states (66-67), it does not belong in the deposit of faith left by Jesus (so we’re not bound to act on it).

Although apparently not very often. Only a few times in the Bible, it seems. ( You forgot Daniel and the Magi. )
Seven billion people slept last night. How many had a message from God in the form of a dream?

But apparently the Church has not approved a dream/apparition in 2,000 years.

Nor is it up to the dreamer to approve his vision, since it would seem that if God is sending a message he will make it crystal clear that’s what he’s doing and he’ll make the message crystal clear too.

I did not forget Daniel & the Magi, I chose only some of the numerous instances from the Bible. I have no idea how many people had messages from God as how many of them would choose to share such information? Not only that, but why play a numbers game like that? Here is your argument turned slightly: The number of people healed at Lourdes is small (despite the numerous visitors), should people stop going for miraculous healings because of the unlikelihood?
You are suggesting we discount all cases of the Lord speaking to us in dreams due to the rarity of the case (not that you could even take such a census to determine the rarity). I, and it seems several others here, disagree with such a position.

There have been a few dreams that were approved (St John Bosco) over the last 2000 years, however there have been numerous apparitions–Medjugorje is still going on! There’s also been, Lourdes, Fatima, Guatemala, and so on. St Faustina Kowalska has had conversations with the Lord.
Also, the dreamer would be included in the phrase “lay people,” so my point still stands: the Church approves visions, not us.

"…Her quest started in 1425, when [she] heard the voices of God in dreams. She asked for an escort to accompany her to Chinon, where the Dolphin (Charles VII) was holding far away from its enemies. She obtained the escort only in 1429, going from Vaucouleurs and reached Chinon a little later.

Joan had an interview with the Dolphin. The latter, convinced by Joan’s mission, entrusted her the command of the army. Joan was then aged only seventeen. The same year, Orleans was delivered. One year later; Rheims was released and the Dolphin was crowned king of France…

She was canonized (indexed in the book of the saints) in 1920…"

I did not give her advice I answered her question deliberately without giving advice. The dream is just a replay of thoughts, sense impressions, emotions and brain activity, so if she thought she heard a message, that is the message she heard. She said she dreamed the message about commandments, so that is what her brain is telling her. I did not make it up. Take a deep breath and calm down.

I deliberately refrained from telling her it meant something else abstract. It is her brain, not yours, so who are you to say it means nothing? I am not the one throwing in non-relevant bible quotes and examples. There is no reason to assume an ordinary thought, impression, dream, emotion, etc. has a supernatural source until all natural explanations have been ruled out and 99% of dreams are just natural brain activity.

In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17

An inspiring and convincing example. 👍
