I rarely venture out of Apologetics and non-Catholic religions so I’m not sure if this is the right place, but I had a quick question.

Do Catholics have Dream Interpreters? Is it something the Priest would handle? Or is it not done at all?

Most dreams have natural causes (our imaginations, life experiences, fears, memories, etc.). Normally we shouldn’t be looking for supernatural meaning behind our dreams.

However, if you have particular concerns in this area, you can ask your confessor, spiritual director (if you have one), or a wise, experienced, trustworthy priest about it.

Just to clarify, I’m not Catholic. I have interpreted Dream after much prayer for people. I don’t believe all dreams are from God, but most have to do with our emotions/concerns as we sleep.

Mainly I was just curious about Catholic teaching on such things.

I have never heard of dream Interpreters in the faith. We believe that God can speak to us however He chooses, but it would be very slowly and carefully discerned as to whether or not it was from God, if neccesary to know. I think it would be very rare to spend time on such a thing.

I have had dreams also and some I think could be from God but I don’t put to much into it just in case it isn’t. I think it would depend on the case.

Among my own circle, I have a reputation as someone who can interpret dreams. I view this as a charism, a gift from G_D. Most of the dreams they ask me to interpret seem to have symbology that is fairly obvious to me, which is why I consider this a gift from G_D: if it’s obvious to me, perhaps there was something they didn’t want to know or understand, and my interpretations help them understand things (hopefully) in the way G_D wants them to understand.

It’s not a Church role, such as deacon, or one of the Charisms of the Holy Spirit listed in Scripture, though, and if your dream is particularly disturbing for a reason not immediately evident, I would pray over the dream and then talk to your priest about it.
