I guess being brought up in the 50’s where we wouldn’t think of going to Mass in shorts or skimpy tops was the norm ( I can’t tell you how many times I used a bobby pin to put a white kleenex on my head, as woman had to cover their head) makes it difficult to see this in church. I’m not judging anyone, but if there is any place to dress modestly it is in Our Lord’s house. It’s wonderful to read other peoples view on the subject. It helps my perspective. I just can’t get used to the idea of people wearing shorts in church. But I am going to try not to think about it as much after reading so many opinions. The state of your soul is the most important thing, but would you go before a king dressed like that. Oh well, just my opinion for what ever it’s worth.

People are not suitably catechized to understand this issue. The issue of modesty is hardly addressed anymore. In addition, many do not understand what is happening at the Mass. The doctrine of the real presence is not always accepted. If the laity were better instructed the problem of dress should disappear.

I agree with your statement. Some of the people in the bible group I attend have brought this issue up to the pastor and he seems reluctant to say anything from the pulpit.Even the correct posture for receiving communion ( bowing, saying Amen) is not even emphasized. It was mentioned once last Sept. and very vaguely mentioned again on Holy Trinity Sunday. I’m beginning to see so many discrepencies from the way I was taught I’m beginning to question whether I’m being too critical which I never want to do. It’s not my place. Have you found your pastor reluctant to bring these kind of issues up either from the pulpit or in the church bulletin? The younger priests seem afraid to say anything which might turn people off. Then there’s the older priests who are willing to speak the truth. I hope what you said at the end becomes a reality. Thanks for responding.

There is actually already a thread going with this same topic and it has gotten quite heated 👍

Thanks for the thread location. Wow! I’ll say it’s heated. I wasn’t expecting such heated or self-righteous responses. I think the way many people dress is a reflection of our society’s dress. If we chose not to buy this indecent clothing, maybe the manufacturer’s would get the message. Modesty seems to be a thing of the past.
Thanks for the thread info.
