Dressing Up for Adoration?

I think that much of this thread goes to trying to discern what is in someone’s heart by what they wear to Adoration. I recall a time that a girl came to Mass in her soccer uniform and it was obviously grass stained so she must have played a game earlier that morning. I recall seeing some disapproving eyes as they must have thought she was being disrespectful. However, when I saw her leave Mass, she proceeded to get in a van with the rest of her teammates and I rejoiced by the great witness she was to her teammates. It was obvious that she made it very clear that this tourney was not going to deprive her of this time with her Lord and Savior.

Personally, to answer the question, if I’m moved to drop in for Adoration, I do it regardless of whether I’m in my Sunday best or if I’ve been working in the yard. Christ loves me and He loves it whenever I stop in for a visit. While I have the 5-6 a.m. shift at our Perpetual Adoration, I usually just get up early enough to dress for work and go to the office early. However, there have been times that I either hit the snooze button or needed my rest and I just threw on my jeans and t-shirt, washed my face, etc. and ran out the door.

We don’t have to “dress up” for adoration.

If a ditch digger wants to stop in for adoration right after work and doesn’t have time to go home and clean up, that would not be offensive in the eyes of Jesus.

We should, however dress modestly and appropriately at all times.

I believe that one should always dress properly for the Lord. Dress pants and a shirt with polished shoes for me. If one who has a job in manual labour and stops after work then that is understandable.

I would think it would depend. If you were attending Adoration after a Mass, dress as you would for Mass. If you are dropping by an afternoon adoration or an Adoration Chapel, what you are wearing during your normal day would be appropriate.

I work the third shift, and attend daily and Sunday Masses directly from work. I wear my work uniform. Sometimes I am quite filthy (to me at least ), but I attend anyway. Same thing with Adoration.

My priest knows that I try to attend whenever I can break away from work. God knows. As for anyone else, it really isn’t their concern. If they want to know, they can ask me.

But please, as a previous poster commented, don’t let your state of dress prevent you from visiting the Lord. Besides, it isn’t what you are or are not wearing, it’s your time spent visiting and praying with the Lord.
