I drink on occasion (I’m Italian and it’s expected in some family settings) and I believe that if Jesus turned water into wine, there’s no sin in enjoying an alcoholic beverage. However, there are limits. Don’t drink with the intention of getting drunk (it’s one thing if you’re with family, etc. and you had a little more than you thought), don’t let it take over your life. Really, it should be a matter of conscience and discernment.
That said, I only drink in family settings right now because it’s the only thing that’s legal for my age (which isn’t right, in my opinion. If you’re going to be considered an adult, whether at 18 or 21, you should have all of the rights and responsibilities of being an adult. But that’s another debate for another time). When I’m older, I do intend to drink regularly and I see nothing wrong with it.
Now, for a good poem
“Where ere the Catholic sun doth shine
There’s always laughter and good red wine
At least I’ve always found it so,
Benedicamus, Domino!”
