I have never drunk alcohol in any form in my life. So if I drank in the future, I wouldnt know how this thing would apply to my mind. Of course I know all possible consequences after drinking alcohol because the society educated most of the times about danger with abusing alcohol(well if only they taught about purity that much). So the best option is to stay sober all the way? I dont talk about drinking a keg but small amounts. Have you ever thought about it? In one hand you take responsibility for everything you want but in the other you dont know how excatly you react.
I dont have strong drive to drink, I have been living without it and dont care if it is or not but I ask “just in case and for curiousity”. Or am I getting too scrupulous?

Edit: I don’t have regrets about my youth because it shaped who I am… but today I obstain.

Ha good luck.

But if I knew you I’d make you listen to Minor threat, rancid out come the wolves, and tears of gaia and draw an x on your hand.

Don’t listen to bad religion seriously until you are 30.

I was 19 when I first drank, and didn’t like the sensation of my thoughts slowing ,my body out of sinc so to speak, and made a mental note not to get to that point ,pass that point again. (18 is the legal age here)
Over time I just came to the conclusion I didn’t really need it to socialise and I preferred all my faculties working properly.

If you choose not to drink ,you actually won’t be missing out on much at all in my honest opinion Babinicz
God bless.

The smart thing to do is wait til your of legal age to drink and not over indulge.

I was never one for doing the smart thing. Started drinking at 15 and often drank entirely too much at parties and stuff, but was fortunate to have good friends who’d look after me (mainly because they were just as likely to need me to do the same for them lol)

After maturing as I’ve grown up and developing some tolerance I can maintain a decent a buzz without getting drunk, and that’s much more enjoyable.

Alcohol tends to amplify existing personality traits. If you struggle with lust sober it’ll probably be worse with alcohol on the brain.

If you have any alcoholism in your family, like among your blood relatives, I’d suggest you just stay totally sober because in my experience, alcoholic behavior runs in families and I personally believe there is a genetic component to that. Some people’s bodies do not process the alcohol very well and they have almost no tolerance before they get drunk and/or crave drink.

I did not have any alcoholism in my family and my parents drank a small amount socially, which means they had maybe a beer or a cocktail once or twice a month. I didn’t drink at all until I was 21 and then only once in a while. My mother gave me some coaching on how many drinks I should be having, that you’re supposed to drink them slowly and eat something first, etc. I’d say by my mid-20s I had a pretty good idea of my limits drinkwise and also that I was able to stop pretty easily and didn’t need it to have a good time. I’ve had some periods of heavy drinking in my life that happened after my father died and after some personal situations with work or school that were stressing me out, but these phases ended pretty quickly and like I said I found myself able to stop easily.

At this point I have maybe 2 drinks a month maximum and I often go for a month or two without having any. I also attend one or two social events a year with my husband where people drink more and at those I might have half a dozen beers over the course of a day, for one day only and with a lot of food involved.

Adgloriam gave you some pretty good advice if you decide you want to try drinking. Your first couple times should definitely be in your own house and preferably with someone you can trust 100 percent (like a parent or one super close trusted friend who’s not a big drinker) supervising. My first time drinking was NOT under those conditions, it was in a bar on my 21st birthday with two of my dearest friends, one of whom was my boyfriend who was a drunk. I was very fortunate that I had a good tolerance for alcohol and nothing embarrassing or bad happened to me. As adgloriam said, people want to get the non-drinker drunk, they think it’s fun.

If you’ve never drank before but think you’ll at least try it, put alcohol in the same group as food. You wouldn’t go to McDonald’s and eat 10 cheeseburgers. If you buy a dozen donuts you don’t eat them all in one sitting. If you think about alcohol as something that goes with food/is food, rather than something which exists for the sole purpose of altering the mind and behavior you may have less issues.

Statistically, if you start drinking heavily at an early age your chances of alcohol-related problems as an adult are significantly higher. Speaking from experience I can theorize that’s because any drinking you would be doing while underage is likely for one reason- to get drunk. So you’re relationship with alcohol starts out on the wrong foot and might continue like that for a few years (into college and maybe into early adulthood). If you’ve got an addictive personality or have alcoholism OR depression in your family you might be better off not tempting fate.

I’ve had a problem with drinking for longer than I’d care to admit but I don’t think my issues merit toutng abstinence for all. Just rememeber its not something you have to do. And, generally, the company you keep will influence to what degree you see excessive intake as normal. If you pick friends who don’t see any problem spending as lot of time at the bar, you might feel more pressure to join in. But if your circle of friends is made up of people who either abstain or drink occasionally and prudently you may not even think abou it.

There are plenty of good times to be had without involving alcohol, and hangovers don’t get better with age. If you try it and don’t like it you’re in good company. I’d just be wary should you try it and really, really like it. That can be a good indicator to limit your intake.

But its not like I really want to try it. I dont but Im close to reach the legal age so the tempation to try a little may come. Only aquaintances I know are these from school but they rather not invite because I dont drink and I stay at home. I never said a real reason why I didnt go to any event. One time the class were organising a campfire and everyone could go but I really wouldnt. Fortunately I was doing something different that day and didnt have to lie to them about absence reason. Becuase the only reason why I didnt was the alcohol, I dont drink, I feel very unconfortable when Im under pressure. Sorry for this unrelated history.
I see it would be the best not to drink at all but then I would have to refuse a lot which then makes me uncomfortably of staying in that event and I would rather leave it and go home and be alone. Well, maybe I havent meet such a good society, especially catholic societes for young ones.

I also don’t like the pressure ,and drinking with friends it was there.I did learn to drink very slowly, and I did admire a friend that only ever drank orange juice when he went out .
It gives an interesting perspective being the one who doesn’t drink, able to be the responsible one,a designated driver if choosing not to drink but to go out with friends that drink. That could work for you.

I believe it isn’t scrupulously,but intelligent forethought ,
an admirable quality in a young person 🙂
God bless.

If you focus your going out on activities you enjoy, then you can concentrate on doing the activity and not be concerned if you’re drinking or not, even if others are. I used to go out dancing or seeing bands because I liked dancing or seeing bands. I never drank and never minded if others did because I was busy with what I enjoyed doing.

If, on the other hand, the only reason your friends are planning an outing is to have an excuse or place to get drunk, then find some new people to hang around with. Drunk people are boring. I spent enough time as the sober one having to watch drunks at play to know that.

OK, if you are under the age to drink where you live, don’t drink.
However in the future, at company parties and stuff, you might be expected to drink. If you feel like you should, try to just sip. Don’t drink anything too much. Things like fries help to keep you from getting too drunk too quickly. Don’t get drunk, just have a little.

But not until it is legal where you live.

This depends on the country you are in. I’ve heard in Japan it is expected. However, in USA there are so many people who’ve been through rehab that it would not be cool to expect people to drink and most places don’t. At any large company party, there’s plenty of non-alcoholic drinks and plenty of people staying sober.

In any event, if a boss did expect this, or the workplace culture was one where everybody was expected to party (these places do exist), a non-drinker would likely be very turned off by that atmosphere and probably end up either not being hired or finding another job where people were more sober and family-oriented.

It’s true there might be situations at the workplace where drinking is common, but if someone chooses not to and simply says “no thanks, I don’t drink” the odds of anyone giving that person grief are super low. Company parties aren’t like frat house keggers.

Yes, but I don’t think he just doesn’t want to drink at all, I think he just doesn’t want to drink to where he does stuff that he shouldn’t and wants to practice safe drinking. That’s the “feel” I get out of it.

Oh I was just speaking generally. I think your advice the OP was fine. If he decides to try drinking, he just needs to do it in moderation around friends he trusts.

I know, I can say no. But there were no situations like that. To be honest, there are only two friends that I like, that I can enjoy myself at its finest. With other people, I would feel chained? Like i am not free enough, that inner feeling.

I usually buy a sampler pack of beer and enjoy it at home. Occasionally, I’ll go out with friends; however, that’s normally during the summer. I can have four strong beers and sleep soundly 😴
