Drinking BLOOD of Christ not Mandatory?

I recall when AIDS first became big news. Some Catholics would not take the wine because they were afraid they could catch the disease . I Never did believe that you could get AIDS from the blood of Christ.
You can’t catch AIDS by drinking anything, unless you are actually drinking the blood of another human who has the disease, and doing it almost directly from a wound.

Well, when AIDS first came about, most people don’t know that or even if told, wouldn’t want to believe that.

Oh, yes. I just think that there’s enough people who are still misinformed about that sort of thing that its worth pointing out whenever it comes up.

Its certainly better now than it was at the start of the epidemic. As a child of the early 1990’s, I can remember the many “for children” explanations of the many ways that you couldn’t get AIDS (drinking from the same cup, breathing the same air…); for obvious reasons they avoided telling first graders the ways that you could.

I wonder if they still bother drilling that sort of thing into young children’s heads anymore; the AIDS epidemic is better know than it used to be and adults are better informed, so maybe they don’t.
