Drinking Holy Water

I would not place holy water in an alcoholic drink, just as a personal piety.

That said, I know Greek Orthodox tend to cook with it, keeping a small bottle near the stove, they will place a few drops into a pot or pan, as well as drink it straight in water with a meal. I think this is more the regular practice in America.

The Russian Orthodox tend to be, as they are about most things, stricter in this piety, and will only consume holy water on an empty stomach. For example, it is a Russian piety to keep holy water and antidoron in one’s home throughout the week, and partake of a bit of it each morning after morning prayers, before breakfast.

When he said “mixer” I was thinking KitchenAid mixer. And yes, there are some who make prosphora who would use holy water. Although Fr. George, the priest on prosphora.org, advices against this. He said that the priest already blesses the bread during Proskomide, so no need to have the flour and water blessed before making the bread.
 
Awhile back I was scheduled on a Saturday morning to make a business trip to China. On the preceding Monday I got a sore throat and took some lozenges. As the week progressed my throat got worse and I increased the medication to combat it. By Friday I was unable to swallow solid food. When I got up on Saturday morning and took the first drink of my coffee I was shocked, it wouldn’t go down. When I tried drinking some water and not a drop would go down my throat, I contemplated canceling my trip. I went to the bathroom closet desperate to find some kind of medication that would help. As I was rummaging through a box I saw on the next shelf a bottle of holy water my wife brought back from Medjugorje. I thought, “What could be better than this”. I took a swallow, held it in the back of my throat, and in about 30 seconds it began to trickle down my throat. I then grabbed my bags and made the hour long drive to the airport. When I arrived at the airport I went to a restaurant and had a breakfast of ham, eggs, and pancakes, my throat was completely better.

We don’t regularly drink holy water, but we do add drops of holy water as well as blessed salt to foods we cook.
