Is drinking a sinÉ i know this is such a vague question, but im dead serious, when does it become a sin… i cant battle myself without ration or some substance to base it on i know ephesians says do not get drunk for its a work of the flesh but does that mean we can never be drunk only buzzed
 
Drinking alcohol, in and of itself, is not a sin. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states…

2290 The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others’ safety on the road, at sea, or in the air.

So the above defines specific grave or mortal sins associated with drunkenness but I can think of others. Some abuses of alcohol that lead to other mortal sins may also be mortal - drinking to the point of losing control of one’s temper and hurting someone comes to mind. Drinking on the job and endangering your livelihood, especially if you are supporting a family might be another.
 
as the child of two alcoholics i believe drinking opens doors to sin i mean say someone starts out having a drink a night it can escalte quickly to alcoholism and abuse

This is my, unfortunate, experience as well. My parents were also alcoholics and neither of them started out as heavy drinkers, it was a process. And once they were depended on the booze, it became THE most important thing in their lives. Nothing can kill the self-esteem of a child faster then to have a parent want to get drunk/high rather than be with them. 😦
 
ive come to the conclusion that im going to once and for all end my drinking. i cant continue to battle myself between being someone who is a good non drinker and someone who is going to just indulge here and there, and go back and forth between the two notions. obviously there is something wrong with drinking if it is associated to sin in the bible, its the matter of opinions that go back and forth from person to person. at the end of the day im saying good bye to this as i cant be someone who is in battle with myself, and feeling rotten when i am having a few.

i prayed to mary today to let this end, not that i am an addictbecause i am not, just for me to stop with this bilateral thinking of being a non alcoholic and then someonewho does have one or two
