Drive-through palms for Palm Sunday

At our parish, the Knights of Columbus were at the church foyer for 90 minutes to distribute palms and prayer cards. The church sanctuary was also available for a visit (with proper social distancing, of course). I saw 7-8 people at the church building and everyone (including myself) was wearing a mask.
People were allowed to walk around the altar? Why?

My parish had the drive through palms for anyone who wanted them. Priests and Deacons were wearing masks and gloves. You roll down your passenger side window and they toss them in. People are putting them on their front doors, but my front door is a terrible dark cave, so I put them in the window.(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

When I was a kid, we used to whack and tickle each other with the palms during Mass. Made our parents so mad! See, I could have told them it was a Ukrainian tradition!

In our diocese the palms are being saved to be distributed later.
This past weekend the prior of our abbey called me and said he had kept blessed palms for me, and refrigerated them so they can be kept fresh until the lockdown ends. Nice touch!

Our parish gave out bottled Holy Water to take home and bless your palms at home.

Our bishop specifically forbade the distribution of palms in any way, shape, or form, because of fears that it would contribute to health concerns. 😥
Personally, I think that is wise. I know in our Archdiocese, the Palms were blessed and will be available for pick up once Masses resume.

The parishes have been whipping everything down… would hate for a palm branch to be a reason why people get the virus from someone who was asymptomatic.

They were also handed out in the Archdiocese by several churches that either did drive-through distribution, or put them some place where people observing social distancing could take palms from a table, as I did.
