Well if all priests were on the same page and we all received the same solid catechesis from the pulpit, we wouldn’t even have to ask these questions.

Without actually have been there when it happened, my guess is the priest just wanted to comfort the children. I say that assuming he told all the laity that after Mass ?

Edit to add : I’m not blaming priests for confusion among laity. I admire many priest’s unique method of delivering sermons.

It may feel awkward but it’s the norm. Some people prefer to receive that way.

Easy fix though. Kneelers for those able to use them.
