At mass today a lady dropped the Eucharist. An altar boy came out and took it away. What does the Church do with the Eucharist in this case?

I would eat it. You can’t get sick from the Eucharist unless you are living in sin.At mass today a lady dropped the Eucharist. An altar boy came out and took it away. What does the Church do with the Eucharist in this case?

I have been trying to wrap my brain around this since I foung out what the T word meant a couple years ago, since I always thought we were taking the Eucharist spiritually. If the Eucharist is dropped and the alter boy came and retrieved it, he took it into the sacristy and placed it in water to be dissolved. After that it is poored down a special sink (can’ t think of the name of it off my head) that goes directly to the ground under the church. which apart from burning something is the proper way to dispose of it. If it is not dirty and gets droped the priest may consume it.

Some of the more common scenarios of dealing with this accident are mentioned on this recent CAF thread .At mass today a lady dropped the Eucharist. An altar boy came out and took it away. What does the Church do with the Eucharist in this case?

The special sink is known as the sacrarium. If the Eucharist is dropped and the alter boy came and retrieved it, he took it into the sacristy and placed it in water to be dissolved. We do not know that. It is best for us to play safe, and to treat it with utmost respect as though Christ still resided in it. The same goes for any particles of the Host, within the bounds of practicality and good sense.I have been trying to wrap my brain around this since I foung out what the T word meant a couple years ago, since I always thought we were taking the Eucharist spiritually.
Now if Jesus can put himself, physical body into a host, do we not think he can take himself out of it? so the alter boy decides he can help Jeusus escape by drowning him and disolving him, and then pour him down the drain?
this sounds just so unrealistic.(for lack of a better word right now).

Me too.I think if I dropped a host I would just natually bend down, pick it up and put it in my mouth.
As I recall, the Priest is supposed to retrieve it and consume it himself. The area is to be covered with a cloth and after Mass, thouroughly scoured for particles that may have dropped and then cleaned with water.I think if I dropped a host I would just natually bend down, pick it up and put it in my mouth.
Oh, so we should let the Priest retrieve it, ok didn’t realize that. Thank you.As I recall, the Priest is supposed to retrieve it and consume it himself. The area is to be covered with a cloth and after Mass, thouroughly scoured for particles that may have dropped and then cleaned with water.
