Dropped eucharist

if one sees the priest or EM drops eucharist, then commonly puts it back in the ciborium, what if anything should be done?
 
  1. Move to the other line.
  2. Tell the priest immediately after mass. There are procedures for disposing of potentially contaminated hosts.
  3. Are you SURE it was put back in the ciborium? It could have been discreetly palmed to be disposed of properly when communion was over.
  4. Remember that when you were a kid you probably ate dirt at least once, and you’re still alive to tell about it. The chance of someone getting sick from eating a dry communion host which touched the dry ground for 17 seconds is pretty remote.

Its a bad habit they should consume it immediately its good hygiene you don’t know if some one has walked in dog stool . That a good thing about the alter rail the blessed Sacrament would fall on the pattern held by the server

In such a situation, the host should be instantly consumed by the person distributing it, and the place where it fell must be purified by your priest. Make sure he knows that it fell.

I would bring this matter to the attention of the head priest of the Parish and kindly mention to him how troubling and disturbing it is when this happens, to think that such offense to the Body of Christ, though accidental, was caused by the absence of the required communion plate.

Father brought back the paten (communion plate) a year and a half ago. He wrote an open letter to the parish explaining why the use of a paten was necessary. One of Father’s examples was this very situation–dropped eucharist.

[My parish uses a]…paten, some Latin, Kyrie, incense…
 
The dropped host should be picked up immediately. Then either the person distributing or the person who should have received it before it fell should consume it.

If for some reason it cannot be consumed (wet, dirty, etc.) it should be placed in water to dissolve and then properly disposed of.
