Dropped Host?

Last week, when I went up to receive the Eucharist, Father missed my mouth and dropped the host. I’d never had that happen before and I panicked because I didn’t know what to do, so I gaped for a second, blessed myself and waited while he picked it up and sort of cupped it in his hand, then tried again and it was ok, and everything was fine this week, too. I felt terrible for him because it was his second day at our parish, but I was too embarrassed to try to mention it after Mass. Should I have done something different? How is a consecrated host disposed of?
 
Normally if a host is dropped the priest or EMHC picks it up and either gives it to the communicant again or consumes it him/herself.
 
In our parish, if you drop the host (the body) the EM or the priest who is giving it, must immediately pick it up and consume it themselves. The person receiving gets a totally new host.

Now, if the blood is dropped, we cover it immediately with our white cloth and it is marked off so no one will walk on it. Then after Mass it is taken care of.

i have just moved to a new state and think it would be a wonderful time for me to find a spiritual director. i also would really like to make a general confession since i have only recently become really serious about my faith. so i would like a spiritual director to help me through this process as well. does anyone have any advice as to how to ask a priest if he is available to be a spiritual director or how to get recommendations when you might not necessarily be super-familiar with the priests?

Thanks for the info! And yes, I agree that patens ought to be used. I can remember them in use in the early 90s, but not since then. Why did they go by the wayside?

lux_perpetua - I don’t know the how to respond to your questions, but you might want to copy your text and use it to start a new thread of your own, which would get you the answers you need quicker.
