Dropped The Blessed Sacrament

When I was about 8 or 9, I accidentely dropped The Eucharist. I confessed but the priest said it was not a sin b/c it was an accident. Was he right? I don’t remember it well but I feel bad about it now, even though its** been years**. I was an accident but I’m worried I wasn’t carful enough or something 😦

In order for something to be a sin there must be intent, knowledge, and consent. This was an accident you did not intend to happen. It was not a sin.

Out Lord was scourged. crowned with thorns and crucified-I suspect he can handle being dropped by a 9 year old with no problem-an no-this was not a sin.

Do not fear, my friend. You did not sin in any way whatsoever. You were not even 10, for starters, little children drop things, it’s okay. No need to fear for your soul over something that God probably just chuckled about.

I do believe that God is a loving Father, and that He wouldn’t be angry over something like this.

As has been stated, to commit mortal sin, the action must be:
  1. Of grave matter. While desecration of the Eucharist is without a doubt a grave matter, rarely does anyone drop the Eucharist so as to disrespect it.
  2. Have full knowledge of the matter and do it anyway. You didn’t even probably know these things at the age of 8 or 9.
  3. Have full consent and intent of the will. You did not in any way want to drop the Eucharist, nor did you even willingly consent to the action.
It was a mere accident, a little, innocent case of childhood clumsiness. We all made little unintentional mistakes as a child, it is not at all sin.
 
I hope this doesn’t come as demeaning or ironic for that is not my intention; I mean this truly to be an affirmation.

I think it’s rather nice that it seems your major moral fear is that when you were young you dropped a consecrated host. I know we all fail and we all sin but if you have that kind of a handle on the sins that plague almost all of us I just need to say bravo.

Happened to me yesterday, the EMHC put the host in my hand then pulled his hand away but the host stayed stuck to his fingers and and it headed to the floor. I simply picked it up and consumed it.
 
^ Did anyone say anything or look at you shocked? I got some grief from people at the time so I freaked out. LOL. It seems silly now

The EMHC seemed upset and thanked me when I reached down and consumed the Host that was dropped. Saved him some embarrassment. But nobody else could really see us. I was singing in our Gregorian chant choir and the EMHC was giving communion to us, in the sanctuary but behind the organ console so nobody else could see us and I was the last in our line to receive.

Nice priest though, gave a good homily and chanted the preface for us, did a very decent job of it too.
