I’ve seen commercials on TV recently for certain medicines with the warning: Do not take if you are pregnant or may become pregnant.

It sounds like the only solution is to do everything possible not to become pregnant. Would it be okay in a case like this where a woman is taking one of these drugs to use contraception?
Does anyone know the CC’s stance on an issue such as this?
Thanks.

Contraception is always wrong.

It also depends on what the medication is for. For example, Acutane… is used to treat severe acne and can cause serious problems in the health of the baby if a woman conceives while on this medication. Most are recommended by their doctors to go on birth control at the same time… Though you might have elsewhere on these forums that if one abstains, like one should if one happens to be on one of these medications, there is no need to take birth control pills or use contraception.

No. Contraception is always against the moral law. It is not based upon circumstances, but rather its intrinsically evil nature.

Yes. One may abstain completely, or one may abstain periodically using the fertility signs observed through methods of natural family planning.
