Bournemouth university do have a form of funding for students in need, however I have already used this funding (they gave me £125) to supplement my income as my loans fall thousands of pounds short of paying my rent/bills. My parents “earn too much” money so I receive minimal loan and no grant but they themselves have no spare income with 2 brothers and a grandmother to support.

However, the ironic thing is my housemate who does the most drugs gets max loan and max grant, AND because he spent all his money on drugs and had no money left for food received hundreds extra because of his low income family.

I apologise if it seems like I have an answer for everything, its just I have truly looked extremely hard to solve this issue.

Thanks again.

So have you called the police when your roommates break out the drugs?
Does your landlord know about the drugs?

Yes the landlord knows and doesnt care as it is student housing and she accepts that “things” happen.

The police have been called, they dont care about petty drugs, only large amounts. Not to mention they dont deem it worthy of their time to acquire a warrant to search the house.

30g’s, even of a class B drug, can get them arrested for intent to supply, also the police could evict the lot of you for letting the premises be used for drug use.

Every time they have more than a gram phone them, (1/8 of an ounce if its weed) and they will do something.

God bless

Dom.

However all 3 of them do drugs quite regularly, class A at that… Over the last few days they have purchased 30 grams of a class B substance and are very open about it. When it arrives I am sure they will have it out and divide it in our living room. **They will attempt to sell some of it **and then use the rest.
They also invite their friends down to stay which I am fine with, until i discover they bring large amounts of drugs to sell. One time they got caught selling .

So twice you mentioned they sell…call the cops EVERY TIME. You might want to tell your landlord she could be seen as condoning the illegal drug activity if she chooses not to do anything. You could tell the cops she knows about the drugs and refuses to do anything.

on the contrary I would advise any young person for whom I have responsibility to move out this week, because of the legal liability issues. having gone through this with my own kids in similar situations you may not understand the grave danger you are in and how the law will judge you.
you assume that he is covered by the law as it is in the US. As he mentioned “several hundred pounds” he is obviously in my country. Here, the law would not do this.

If his flatmates are using drugs and he is not involved in the use or supply, he will not be charged. Worst that would happen is he would be arrested and questioned and then released. I checked with my sister who is a police officer. She told me that’s what she’d do.

Things the poster has said indictate that he is in the UK. The landlord would not be legally liable.

Calling the police every time would be a waste of police time. They couldn’t do anything without evidence of a sale having taken place.

You’re obviously stuck in this accommodation.

The police don’t have the resources to deal with continual callouts about small amounts of drugs. If you’re in a place with a large student population, they will be unable to deal with all the houses like this. You say they’ve been out, they don’t get a warrant. I can’t imagine that they’d suddenly decide to do so and raid the house, so you aren’t going to be arrested.

I assume you have spoken to the legal people at the university, and you are unable to get out of the contract. Go and speak to the student support people, and beg for another hardship grant. They may be able to give a second grant in cases like this. Don’t take the first “no” as final. It would be sensible to mention that due to your religious beliefs, you’re finding this situation unbearable. They have to take that into account and it may be a condition under which a second grant will be given.

Thank you starsmurf! It has never occured to me to use my religion in my argument. I try not to drop it into things as people could interpret it as me demanding special attention due to it, but in this case it is fully justified. Thanks.
Also nice to have a Brit who understands how things work over here. However sometimes I do wish it was more like the American system where the police can actually do more without all this red tape.
