I think it was him comparing it to bestiality that angered the channel.
I am not certain that he equated homosexuality with bestiality. He listed what was sinful but the fact is, does the Bible say homosexuality is less of a sin than bestiality or that besitiality is less of asin than sleeping around with multiple people? They are all sin.
Pressed to give his own definition of sin, he first suggested homosexuality, then added: “Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”
“Don’t be deceived,” he continued. “Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers - they won’t inherit the kingdom of God.”
“Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

From what I understand about Phil Robertson, he states what he thinks and believes. None of this, that I’m aware, has ever been done in a “hate-filled” manner. It’s obvious that he thinks America is on the “wrong” path, including the views of some with regards to sexuality. To say that his remarks have drawn the kind of backlash that they have may very well serve to support this.

On the other hand, the many supportive views of those who not only agree with him, but also stand with him in his right to state them, may also indicate the degree to which Duck Dynasty represents a part of American culture that many people believe is being “crushed” out of our way of life.

Also, remember there were reports of disagreements with the producers about the prayer at the end of each episode. That they were being prayed “in the name of Jesus” was a “concern” that it might be offensive to some. Mr. Robertson is a Christian man. He expresses his beliefs without rancor, condemnation, and judgement. Nor have I heard him state them is a coercive manner. If those who bemoan the lack of “rights” in our society cannot abide such a man, then this only serves to demonstrate the depths to which our country has sunk.

He and Miss Kay will be fine, as well as Syi. It’s the others who have always been my concern as they particapate in a “scripted” way of life, not what they will do with the narrative. Rather, what will the “narrrative” (of Hollyweird) do to them.
They need to remember who they are and whose they are.

You could say that he compared homosexuality to bestiality in a way that homosexuality and bestiality are both sins. He listed what was sinful. Does the Bible say homosexuality is less of a sin than bestiality or that besitiality is less of a sin than sleeping around with multiple people? They are all sin.

Not exactly a loss to American cultural life.
I disagree entirely. The show portrays a family successfully raising generations of people with a moral ethic. Those people have a successful family business manufacturing a quality product. While each and every one of them has personal idiosyncrasies they all love each other. And it is a boon to American cultural life that a man would proclaim the truth in the face of societal degeneracy. You need to rethink.

I don’t watch much TV and I don’t watch that show, but AGREED. As far as I know they are a Christian family with values and they pray every show.

I’ve never watched the show but the beliefs of that family are so strong that they pour into popular media news like this forum.

The Robertson family are *already *millionaires. They haven’t been and will not be intimidated by a network. As others noted, its their viewership, whether they agree or disagree with Robertson, who are angered by the network’s one-sided conclusion on how faith and belief are discussed. It would be one thing if comments on the anatomical incompatibility of homosexuality were said and left at that. But it wasn’t, and that was the 'belief" part that A&E missed.

Paradoxically to the pro-gay advocacy attitudes of networks and culture today, people seem to watch “Duck Dynasty” in part because of that faith dynamic, which shows the people are not only genuine but consistent.

A&E is in a losing fight to censor the show over a type of religious freedom, and the viewers know the network’s error.

People should once and for all reject political correctness as the fascist ideology that it is. It’s only job is to shut people up (mostly Christians) and we’ll end up with ‘hate speech’ laws like other countries have.
👍

What’s interesting is that I found the article online and this is what else Phil had to say:

"We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus—whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists.
ZOMG…he compared gay people to drunken terrorists!

Somebody do something!!

Wish the priest in the diocese were as clear in their preaching as Phil.

But they have beards and hunt! What else are “progressives” supposed to do but look down their nose at them!

But there was no comparison. There was a listing of sins.

A comparision statement in English requires comparative preposition ( greater than, equal to) or similie. What Phil Robertson gave was a listing of things that he considered to be sins ( and it’s a list that any Catholic would agree with)

It’s interesting that Phil Robertson knows more about the construction of a sentence than GLADD does

We watch it because it’s some of the last great family entertainment left on TV. It is something that the whole family can sit down at watch, and I won’t need to be concerned about profanity, about inappropriate relationships etc.

The concept of Freedom of Speech, though enumerated in the Constitution, is widely misunderstood by most people. First, Freedom of Speech does not give you right to say anything anywhere any time. Or as Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes once put it, “Freedom of Speech does not give you the right to yell ‘Fire!’ in a crowded theater.”

While you are free to say what you want and express your opinion, no one is under any obligation to facilitate your speech. You can send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper, but no law says the newspaper has to print it. Likewise, Mr. Robertson can express his opinion about gays, but his bosses (A&E) also have a right to shield themselves from what they think could be negative publicity.

The other point about Freedom of Speech is that the government is not allowed to suppress your speech. Private individuals or entities may do whatever they want.
