But the Church does have a position on the occult. Let us desist with ad hominem attacks, shall we? Dungeons and Dragons utilizes names of actual demonic personages. But if you want to insist it is just pretend, go right ahead. I have warned you of the dangers.
Yes the Church does have a position on the occult. Dungeons and Dragons is not occult. If it was for you then that is an individual issue.

And speaking of ad hominem attacks;
The uninformed attitudes of many posters on this thread are testimony to the poor state of catechesis in the Church today.
As for your attempt, as pointed out above, as saying you played for 20 years, I have played on and off since 1980. I still collect and read it and if I could I would jump at getting into a game, especially the upcoming 4th Edition release of Dark Sun where the use of magic destroys life. That is pretty far from occult belief.

CWBetts:

“Attitude” is very different than experience and truth. As a recent convert to the Church and an older person, my catechism is very strong, thanks in part to CAL and many other resources. As a gamer of over 25 years myself, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation, I have a few insights on the nature and impact of play that you may not realize.

Your statement is disingenuous to many here who have offered their thoughts and experiences to the OP question. Not all of us can be wrong in our assessment as it pertains to ourselves.

Our opinions don’t make you wrong, either. You just had a bad reaction based on your knowledge, catechesis and other factors. It is good you removed the bad influence from your life.

Many, many others like myself have not had this experience, and for some it may have strengthened their faith in God. I can’t play evil characters because it goes against my grain, reinforced by the Holy Spirit in me, the real me.

The devil could spiritually influence someone with a banana. It’s not the tool that the devil uses, but the mindset and strength of faith of those exposed to it. We are all built with different strengths and weaknesses. It is good you did what you needed to do for yourself, for that is also strength.
